Uganda has confirmed the fifth #Covid-19 death and 13 new cases from samples tested on 2 August 2020. This brings the cumulative confirmed cases of Ugandans to 1,195.
Currently, there are 17,660,523 confirmed cases of #Covid-19 and 680,894 deaths worldwide.
According to the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Henry Mwebesa the deceased is a 46-year-old female of Indian origin, a resident of Kibuli, Kampala.
“On Saturday, she presented at Kibuli hospital with signs and symptoms consistent with #Covid-19 which included mild fever, dry cough and difficulty in breathing. Upon suspecting #Covid-19, Kibuli Muslim hospital referred her to Mulago National referral hospital for further management.” He said
The patient however passed away on her way to the hospital. The samples were then taken from her body for analysis. They were analyzed at various laboratories which included Makerere University, Uganda Virus research institute (UVRI) and Central public health laboratories and confirmed SARS-COV2.
He said the ministry has now embarked on tracing all contacts.
“Investigations show that the deceased was diabetic and off medication and had a history of Asthma for over 10 years,” he revealed.
