How Dott services built Shs 66 billion Water and Sewerage Project in Arua

The leading services provider in the construction industry in East Africa, Dott services Limited has recorded another milestone after it successfully erected a Shs 66 billion Water and Sewerage Project in Arua.

Over the years, Northern Uganda and West Nile region in particular had a problem of water scarcity and this is alluded to a long dry spell experienced from November up to March when the rains return.

Arua water project is part of a bigger World Bank-funded project that will also see improved water and sewerage access in Bushenyi, Mbale and Gulu towns.

According to the site surveyor at Dott services Mr. Kibuuka Sowedi, Under the project a 23 kilometres of sewer lines was laid connecting over 400 houses in Arua city and neighbouring areas.

In addition, 79 kilometers of water lines was laid and the water treatment at purification center at River Enyau. He said the 12,000-cubic meter water reservoir was built at Gilgil, West of Arua town.

He said that they also constructed a sewage correction center at Dadamu and at a female prison site.

“The sanitation project receives sewerage from all areas of Arua town through sewerage pipes to anaerobic ponds which allow solids to settle down at the bottom as sludge, facultative ponds and maturation pond before discharging it to the main water stream.” He said adding that the process is natural and does not involve any chemicals.

The construction of the 3.5 million litres water reservoir and storage at Giligili in Pajulu Sub County has been completed in addition to the current 1.4 million litres at Arua hill which is to be renovated under the same project.

The National water and sewerage corporation (NWSC) is expanding the coverage from the 10km radius as it has been to 30km.

The project which was handed over to the government in 2018, was executed by Egyptian firm El-Nasr and Dott Services, a local civil works firm.

The company has handled various projects which include; Kafu-Masindi Road, Muduma-Mityana Road, Jinja-Kamuli Road, Mbale-Soroti Road, Tororo-Mbale Road, Muku-Tarakea among other projects.
