Police have teargassed and fired live bullets to disperse protesters in Mulago and Wandegeya areas.
The protesters are demanding for the immediate release of their Presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Sentamu Robert, the NUP flag bearer on presidency, who was arrested by security agencies on Wednesday in Luuka district.
The protesters include people working in washing bays, boda boda riders, welders among others.
Police first warned groups of youths who had started burning car tires and blocking vehicles in Mulago and Wandegeya.
Arnold Tumwine, a protester, asks President Yoweri Museveni to order police to release Kyagulanyi as soon as possible.
He says that he was scheduled to be in Luuk, so why did the security agencies enter in his program. Adding that why is it that when the NRM candidates hold rallies of such huge gatherings are not stopped, instead, they are guarded.
Protesters are vowing to keep the protest on until bobi wine is released.
Over 50 people who have been affected by teargas have been rushed to Mulago for first aid when they are unconscious.
Most of the businesses like shops, washing bays, hotels, clinics, spare parts shops among others have closed immediately when the police started engaging protesters.
