Operations will resume to full-scale at the Old Taxi Park on Saturday 22nd May 2021, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has revealed.
“We are pleased to announce that KCCA has now substantially completed construction works to rehabilitate the Old Taxi Park and set to open for full operation. We are ensuring that the park is operated and managed better than it was before,” KCCA said in a statement.
KCCA said installing of an Access Control System takes place from 8th – 12th May, putting down illegal structures (Billboards) from 8th – 10th May, and engaging Taxi operators’ leadership on park governance on 13th and 14th May.
Labelling of stages will be on 15th – 16th May and dry run to test operational readiness for all park systems on 17th – 18th May before full re-opening on 22nd May.
On May 7 2020, KCCA embarked on works that involved drainage improvements, parking area and embankment construction and beautification of the park.
Having been in existence for over 50 years, the COVID-19 outbreak, presented an opportunity to work on the park carpet area and immediate surrounding without interference from Taxis that had been grounded due to a nationwide lockdown.
