Jailed former Principal Accountant in the Ministry of Public Service Christopher Obey is dead.
Uganda Prison Service head of communication Frank Baine confirmed the death of Mr. Obey. Mr.Baine revealed that Obey died of pneumonia which he has been treating for a long time.
“It is true Mr Christopher Obey has passed on as he has been battling pneumonia for a long time which worsened yesterday and we rushed him to Mulago Hospital. He was put on oxygen but he unfortunately died today” Mr Baine said.
Obey, former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service Jimmy Lwamafa, Stephen Kiwanuka, the director Research and Development at the same ministry were in 2016 convicted for ten years in connection to forgery and corruption of Shs88.2 billion meant for pensioners.

DEATH OF PRISONER NO. MBP 3705/18 CHRISTOPHER OBEY FROM MULAGO NATIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL.
Today Friday 2nd July 2021, Inmate No. MBP 3705/18 Christopher Obey aged 52 years serving a 24-year imprisonment passed away from Mulago National Referral Hospital from complications related to pneumonia.
Christopher Obey, was known to have suffered from high blood pressure and pneumonia which had been controlled and managed by the prisons medical personnel.
On 16 June 2021 he was admitted to Murchison Bay Inmates Hospital from where he was referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital on Thursday 1st July 2021.
A postmortem will be done on the deceased before release of the body to the family members for burial.
