President Yoweri Museveni has shifted his office back to parliament building in a move security sources say it is aimed at monitoring the activities of legislators.
The offices are located on the old bloc northern wing of parliament which Museveni had ceased using for over a decade ago. He shifted major departments in his office from the building into the new Chinese built towers that house some ministries and departments from both president’s office and office of the prime minister. He has been operating his activities at State House Entebbe and some at State Lodge Nakasero.
“The president is coming back to his office on 5th floor at the old building. He wants to be near parliament and it is a shock to everyone. Security is already heightened around parliament and the surrounding areas. It could be that he wants to closely monitor the works of members of parliament given that he said there is corruption at parliament” a confidential source told Eagle Online.
The old president’s office formerly housed the cabinet library on 5th floor as well as the office of the Minister for Presidency on same floor. It also had the office of the Vice President on 3rd floor and also the secretaries and ministers under that office and the last occupant of that office was Prof. Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya.
Museveni’s history with the old office dates back to the 1960s when he worked in the intelligence department under President Milton Obote but he would later return in mid 1980s to occupy it as president as capturing state power
