Former Gender and Labour Minister Zoe Bakoko Bakoru has sneaked into the country and reportedly met with President Museveni.

Sources within the security establishment told Eagle Online that she is set return into active politics but this time mobilizing for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

“She returned into the country over a month ago and she is somewhere in the north resting before she returns to mobilize for the party, she is fine and has already got blessings of a big man” said a source on condition of anonymity.

Bakoru fled Uganda into exile in 2007, she was wanted by court to answer charges of abuse of office. Prosecution at the time alleged that she approved a joint venture in which the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) lost about Shs8 billion. She was jointly charge with former chairman of NSSF board, Geoffrey Onegi Obel and former Managing Director Leonard Mpuuma.

According to proceeding at the time, Mpuuma received a bribe of $350,000 about (Shs637 million) from James Isabirye businessman to have a business venture given to him.

The then Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Margaret Tibulya, issued arrest warrants for Bakoru, businessman, Isabirye Mugoya and former NSSF Managing Director, Leonard Mpuuma for defying summons to appear and answer charges of causing NSSF a financial loss of millions of shillings.

However, during his trip to New York in United States of America in 2015, President Yoweri Museveni met Bakoko and discussed the possibility of her return from exile.

At the time of her prosecution, she had claimed that part of the money at NSSF was being used by the Kampala political class for running the system.

Ms Bakoko asked him to support her return unconditionally, procure land for her to settle and also pay tuition for part of her family. But she didn’t return

She served as the Woman Member of Parliament for Arua District from 1996-2001 and Ayivu Constituency from 2001-2006.
