RDC Majambere remanded over land grabbing

Must read

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has remanded Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Rukiga District, Kamuntu Semakula Ivan commonly known as Majambere charges of Conspiracy to defraud, stealing cattle, and criminal trespass.

He has been remanded until 3/12/2024.

The case stems from an incident in August 2023 when Majambere, along with accomplices who are still at large, allegedly violently seized 300 acres of farmland (Block 75, Plot 2) in Gomba District.

The land belongs to 75-year-old Mzee Frank Rushanganwa, who has held the certificate of title since 2003. According to court documents, the group also stole 157 cows, valued at Shs318 million, from the farmland and transported them to an undisclosed location.

Majambere has claimed that he purchased part of the contested land in 2020 from his co-accused, Amos Mwesigye, who in turn alleged that he had acquired the entire property in 2018.

However, no proof of purchase has been presented. To fortify their hold on the land, the duo reportedly sold portions of it to unsuspecting buyers.

Despite a court-issued eviction order in March 2024 directing Mwesigye to vacate the land, both individuals allegedly continued to threaten and harass Mzee Rushanganwa. This blatant defiance prompted the intervention of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, leading to Majambere’s arrest.

For Mzee Rushanganwa, who has held rightful ownership of the land for over two decades, the arrest brings a glimmer of hope for justice. However, the case also serves as a stern reminder of the pervasive issue of land grabbing in Uganda and the need for continued vigilance against such crimes.

Majambere has been in the news ever since he undressed supposedly condemning Buganda.
