Tejas Patel has been remanded to Luzira Prison until October 22, 2026, after the charge sheet against him was amended to include aggravated human trafficking, as the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development raised concerns over the case, questions surrounding his citizenship, and the circumstances under which a co-accused suspect was granted bail.
Tejas Patel is the second suspect arrested in connection with an alleged human-trafficking network reportedly linked to Sanjiv Patel, alias “Sanju.” Arrested on October 4, 2026, he has been remanded to Luzira Prison until October 22 after prosecutors amended the charge sheet to include aggravated human trafficking. The allegations remain unproven in court.
Patel appeared before the Makindye Magistrate’s Court in the presence of his lawyer but was remanded after the chief magistrate was unable to preside over the matter.
According to allegations surrounding the investigation, Sanjiv Patel has been associated with a human-trafficking operation said to have been active for approximately two decades.
The allegations further claim that Patel relied on relatives and associates to conduct business and other activities on his behalf, with his cousin, Tejas Patel, allegedly among those operating within that circle.
