Olivier Prentout, the Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Uganda said the ‘No Fear’ will ensure that the youth are offered the right and necessary tools required for the advancement of technology and innovation within Uganda.

“The young people like living life on the edge, looking for opportunities to grow and associating with success. With MTN Pulse, we offer them a dynamic gateway to express themselves and interact freely. We would like them to use the movement to seize the opportunities with #NoFear,” Prentout said.

“For the first time ever, we are introducing a weekend bundle that can only be accessed through our Pulsers community code *157# and the MTN Pulse website on pulse.mtn.co.ug. We understand that the weekend is filled with activities that must be shared. Those moments can now be shared with an affordable youth friendly weekend bundle,” Prentout added.

Zimbabwean professor arrested over Grace Mugabe’s PhD

Grace Mugabe

The Vice Chancellor of University of Zimbabwe,Prof Levi Nyagura‚ was on Friday night picked up by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over the awarding of a PhD to former first lady Grace Mugabe.
According to the charge sheet‚ Nyagura “recommended without the approval of the university council” that the wife of ousted Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe be awarded the degree.
ZACC spokeswoman Phyllis Chikundura said the academic would appear in court on Saturday morning at about 10am.
“He’s in custody. He will have his day in court tomorrow facing abuse-of-office charges‚” she said.
The university’s sociology department had in January petitioned the ZACC to look into the matter‚ which it described as suspicious.
The petition said the award was “a shock to many members of the department” and that most members had only heard of Mugabe’s graduation in the media and saw pictures in the university calendar. It added that department staff had not seen Mugabe’s research proposal‚ progress reports or the outcome of any research.
At the time‚ the ZACC issued a statement saying it had received a complaint but was not pursuing the matter.
Four years after the degree was awarded in 2014‚ it was not readily available on the university’s website. It was uploaded only at the end of January this year.

ARRESTED: Prof. Levi Nyagura.

Nyagura claimed it had been available at the university’s library all along, and warned lecturers who were “ignorant of the university’s ordinances”.
When the document titled “The Changing Social Structures and Functions of the Family: The Case of Children’s Homes in Zimbabwe” was uploaded‚ some academics said it was akin to academic fraud and was not fit to stand even as an undergraduate study.
This week, the government reduced the number of security staff assigned to Mugabe and his wife, and withdrew security officers from their daughter Bona’s Harare home.
Insiders said the drastic measure was taken to punish Robert Mugabe for meeting opposition leader Joice Mujuru amid suspicion that he hoped to pair his wife with Mujuru to lead an opposition movement.

Excitement as Jambojet starts flights to Entebbe Airport

Water gun salute Jambojet at the runway upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

Jambojet maiden flight to Uganda touched down at Entebbe Airport at exactly 10.30 am, ushering in renewed competition and a promise of lower air fares for frequent flyers in Uganda.

The maiden flight was met by Director of Transport from Ministry of Works and Transport Mr. Benon Kajuna, Uganda Civil Aviation Managing Director Dr. David Kakuba, and Jambojet CEO, Willem Hondius, amongst others.

With the entry, Jambojet will operate double daily flights with departures from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 09.10hrs and 17.30 hrs. The flight will depart Entebbe International Airport for Nairobi at 11.00 hrs and 19.20 hrs daily.

Speaking during the occasion, Jambojet CEO Willem Hondius said Jambojet introductory fare of US $116 approximately (Shs 400,000) is the lowest on the route and was intended to encourage more people to travel by air both in Uganda and the region.

“In East Africa alone, we have a market of over 100 million people and we have barely scratched the surface in air travel. We believe that Jambojet’s entry into Uganda will make air travel more affordable to majority of people who travel for business or leisure in the region and beyond.”

He noted that there is especially a huge opportunity for the tourism sector to develop products that are unique to Uganda and can be shared through a regional circuit. With Jambojet entry into the market, it is expected to eat into Kenya Airways that had monopolized the Nairobi-Entebbe route and made it the most expensive short route in the world.

Director of Transport from Ministry of Works and Transport Mr. Benon Kajuna ,Uganda Civil Aviation Managing Director Dr. David Kakuba, and Jambojet CEO, Willem Hondius,

“In particular we expect the tourism industry to reap maximum benefit from facilitation of an EA Circuit which would give tourists an opportunity to visit scenic attractions in Uganda such as The Source of The Nile., Murchison Fall, Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Rare Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi National Reserve,” he said.

The Director of Transport Mr. Benon Kajuna who represented the State Minister for Works and Transport Aggrey Bagiire noted that the growth of the air travel sector was important for the entire economy since it created opportunities for investment, capacity building and employment including creating linkages for better intra-regional trade.

“We need to build capacity to allow our local businesses to have greater access to foreign markets. Air transport and connectivity supports exports and simultaneously increases competition and choice in the home market from foreign-based producers. This in turn encourages firms to specialize in areas where they possess a comparative advantage, allowing for opportunities to exploit economies of scale, which lowers the cost of production and ultimately benefits domestic consumers,” he noted.

Uganda to plant 300 million coffee trees every year

Uganda to plant 300 million coffee trees every year

The Uganda Coffee Development Authority has revealed it has intensified its push for the coffee bill to be passed into law.

Addressing delegates at the biggest coffee conference on the continent, the African Fine Coffees’ Association (AFCA) held in Kampala, Uganda, Emmanuel Niyibigira, the Managing Director at Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), said that they are pushing for the coffee bill to be passed into law to pave way for new innovations, marketing, quality, production incentives and funding for the sector.

He said that the main reason they are pushing for the bill is because they want the farmer to be at the centre of “this commodity (coffee)”.

Niyibigira further urged farmers, NGOs, government, banks, suppliers, retailers to join hands to tackle challenges facing the coffee sector in Uganda.

Among the challenges facing the coffee sector include; numerous non-tariff barriers, unsupportive cultural practices, lack of exposure to international best practices, limited social capital, unpredictable policy environment and limited access to information.

Speaking to media at Serena Conference Center where the conference was held, the State Minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibanzanga said that all of these challenges will be addressed by the current coffee roadmap which was launched by President Yoweri Museveni last year.

According to the Uganda coffee roadmap, government plans to plant 300 million trees per year. It’s optimistic this will increase output of coffee from the current 4.5 million 60-kilograms bags to 20 million bags by 2025.

According to Kibazanga, this will create more than 500,000 jobs in the coffee value chain.

In his Keynote address, Frederick S.M Kawuma, the Secretary General, Inter-Coffee Organisation (IACO) recommended that for the formulation of a comprehensive strategy.

“Perhaps a taskforce could be created to pursue the implementation of the meetings’ recommendations, with the view to develop an AFCA/IACO/ICO project that objectively analyses the issues and provides a roadmap for implementation.”

Sources within BoU allege that the layers are still being consulted and are still in connection with some top BoU officials. It is said that there are some cliques within the bank and each fighting the other. 3 Ways to Help You Find Your Ideal Workout

To achieve the desired level of body fitness, you will need to go through many options and processes to see what works for you best. In addition, you will need to continue exercising, even after achieving your desired level, because fitness needs to be maintained. Fortunately, the options are not limited, and it is upon you to explore them. To achieve the results you desire for yourself, you also need to watch your diet, besides doing workouts. These two work better if you add steroids to your lifestyle and assist you in bodybuilding. You can easily obtain safe and high-quality steroids at steroide online bestellen, and you will get value for money.

How do you go about deciding what works best fit for you in getting physically fit and maintaining your fitness? The following three straightforward piece of advice will help you choose what suits you best.

Fads are not necessarily good for you

You could be hearing about a workout from every corner you turn to. The social media platforms could also be lauding it and making everyone believe that it is the best thing that ever happened since sliced bread. The workout could even be gracing every magazine cover, and your most favorite celebrity could be crazy about it, making you feel that if you are not doing it, you are not doing anything. But pause for a moment, is the workout safe, effective, and the best for your lifestyle?

Not all fads are bad, but you need to get a lot of information about the promises tied to program and its mode of performance. Get answers to other several questions. What is the duration of the workout? What equipment is needed for the workout? What effect will you experience? What is the level of intensity expected? And the most crucial one – What pay off can you expect? The answers should be as close as possible to your needs and desires.

You can get firsthand information from friends, colleagues or other persons who have used the program instead of only relying on adverts. Keep in mind that no workout is 100% perfect or should be the only thing you depend on. You should not abandon all that you were doing in favor of the new exercise. Otherwise monotony, which is counterproductive, will set in.

Should be easy for you

You need to consider how easy it is to perform the workout. The conditions or things needed to make the workout happen should not be a hindrance. Ask yourself these questions: Must you go elsewhere such as a gym to perform it, and if so, is that possible for you? Does the workout require special items – equipment or clothing to perform, and if so, do you have them or will you need to get them? What expenses are required to do the workout? The answers to these questions can help you know how easy it will be for you to take up the exercise. Explore the options to make it easier for you to perform the exercise but do not let the preparation tasks dishearten you.

Fun is the most important of all

Finally, is your workout fun to do? If a workout plan is not enjoyable for you, you will hardly push yourself to perform it. It doesn’t matter how effective it is theoretically. If pedaling on a bike for an hour is not your thing, then choose something more appealing. If you prefer dancing from dawn to dusk, enroll yourself in your area ballroom dance class and start off doing what you find fun doing. One expert in fitness aptly puts it that working should not feel like a chore. Instead it should feel like a gift.

The assumption that the advice you receive from others is the perfect formula should be discarded. Use these three simple rules, and you could find yourself lifetime’s worth of activities.

Police boss, Bakaleke sent on forced leave over Shs1.4bn extortion claims

WHAT NEXT: Siraje Bakaleke

Kampala South Regional Police Commander (RPC) Siraje Bakaleke has been forcibly sent on leave to pave way for smooth investigations into the extent of his involvement in a Shs1.4bn scam.
Sources say that officers investigating Bakaleke on Wednesday wrote to the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura requesting him (Bakaleke) to step aside from his office so that he does not interfere with the investigations.
Bakaleke is said to have respected the request by the IGP and actually never appeared at office on Thursday.
Efforts by this reporter to speak to the police spokesman SSP Emillian Kayima for a comment were futile as he did not pick our repeated telephone calls.
Mr Bakekeleke is alleged to have connived some other people to extort money from three South Korean investors.
He is said to be behind the operation in which three police officers obtain Shs1.4bn from South. Koreans, who had gone to meet Mr Wanyoto, at gun point.
The three police officers, one Muzanero, George Kayongo and Patrick Ochen, were earlier this week arrested and are being held at Nalufenya police facility in Jinja. They were, prior to the arrest, attached to Katwe Police Station.
Bakaleke is alleged to have masterminded the heist and only dispatched the trio to execute.

The Koreans, who have since been identified as Ha Dong Sua, Park Seunghoon and Jang Seungkwon, were threatened to be deported on detention hence asking them for money.

However, Wanyoto is on record to have denied having connived with police to obtain any money from the Koreans.

In his explanation he claims that it is actually the Koreans who attempted to lure him and entrap him into the scam but were rather unsuccessful.

Remember Luwum through actions- Mugisha Muntu

Gen. Mugisha Muntu.

Former Forum for Democratic Change party president Gen. Mugisha Muntu has asked Ugandans remember the late Archbishop Janan Luwum through action by stand up for truth and justice.
Writing on his Facebook page, Gen. Muntu said the late Janani Luwum stood for justice and the belief that all God’s children are equal and all lives mattered.
Gen. Muntu said the Archbishop Luwum was a man like any other at a time when evil seemed to prevail, he stood firmly on the side of justice, even when it cost his life.
‘’Sometimes in life, we are faced with the choice of sitting back and allowing evil to prevail, or standing up for what we believe, Our choice in that moment could be the difference between the life and death, success and failure,” he wrote on social media.
He noted that due to his courage, out of the darkness of his death, there came the light of Ugandans who fought against Amin’s dictatorship and adding that, “as we celebrate this man of faith, we are duty bound to follow in his footsteps as the best way to honor him.”
The late Janani Jakaliya Luwumu was archbishop of the Church of Uganda from 1974 to 1977 and one of the most influential leaders of the modern church in Africa, arrested in February 1977 and died shortly after in what was termed to be a motor accident.
