‘South Sudan, Ethiopia feud over President Kiir’s visit to Egypt’

South Sudan President Salva Kiir with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalgn

A diplomatic row has broken out between South Sudan and neighbouring Ethiopia following posts on social media that President Salva Kiir accepted to allow Ethiopian rebels to open an office in the capital Juba, media sources indicate.

“Rumours have been circulating on social media that when President Kiir visited Egypt, he discussed important issues with the Egyptian officials so that Ethiopian rebels can open an office in Juba, “a senior government official who preferred anonymity, was quoted as saying by Radio Tamazuj.

“The rumours circulated that the President has accepted to allow the Ethiopian rebels to open their office in Juba and Egypt will support the Ethiopian rebels with guns, because Egypt is having differences with Ethiopia over the issue of the Renaissance Dam, so this is what happened on social media,” he added.

The official accused the SPLM-IO faction allied to former First Vice President Riek Machar of circulating the rumour in neighbouring Ethiopia. ”The rebels now took advantage of that, and this information has already reached the government of Ethiopia,” he said.

He pointed out that the government of Ethiopia has decided to cut diplomatic ties with the government of South Sudan and expel South Sudan’s Ambassador to Addis Ababa.

“Even if there are differences between us, Ethiopia cannot expel our ambassador, because the ambassador is the ambassador of South Sudan to Ethiopia and at the same time he is representing us in the African Union. So, Ethiopia cannot expel our ambassador,” he said.

According to the official, South Sudan government will issue a statement regarding the issue.

Shs6b oil cash bonanza: Parliament investigations start tomorrow

VICTORIOUS: Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu

The Committee on State Agencies and State Enterprises (COSASE) will tomorrow start investigating the shillings 6 billion ‘presidential handshake’ awarded to 42 senior government officials.

Led by COSASE chairperson, Bugweri county MP Abdu Katuntu, the select committee members will investigate whether circumstances under which the officials got the money are in tandem with the set procedures.

The money is question is part of the US$434 million ‘saved’ following the conclusion of litigation involving the Uganda government and two oil prospecting companies, Heritage Oil and Gas and Tullow Oil.

On January 10 Kadaga adjourned all parliamentary proceedings sine die over a separation of powers stand-off that followed a public spat between the Speaker and constitutional court Judge Steven Kavuma, after the latter issued an injunction, ordering Parliament not to debate the sharing out of Shs6 billion.

The matter that points adversely to the participation of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and the Commissioner General Doris Akol, also evoked the name of President Yoweri Museveni and has since caused a public outcry given that some key services in the country are wanting.

In the ensuing days Mr Museveni called a meeting of the NRM parliamentary caucus and reportedly told them he okayed the payout but on insistence of the MPs’ opposition to the scheme, offered guidance on how the matter could be handled.

The development set the pace for the Kadaga to assign COSASE to investigate the saga and the Katuntu committee is expected to carry out the assignment in two months and report back to the Speaker.

Former FDC presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye has contested for presidency on four occasions.

Three of these elections were supervised by Eng. Badru Kiggundu, the former chairman of the Electoral Commission and Besigye says he won on all occasions but that Kiggundu always denied him the victory.

In fact, last November, as Kiggundu’s mandate as EC boss expired, Besigye called for the latter’s arrest; the presidential candidate wanted Kiggundu charged with treason for organisng what he described as sham elections and consistently declaring Yoweri Museveni as the President of Uganda.

A cross section of Muslim leaders who attended former Mufti Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza’s Dua.

But that was last year: when the two met over the weekend at the Dua of former Mufti Sheikh Hussein Rajab Mukasa Kakooza, who is the Head of Sharia at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, the two appeared to be comfortable in the presence of each other. They did not only share jokes but also shared meals as well.

Ugandans have reacted to the meeting of the two leaders.

Rutahwaire Anthony; Mwaana even by mere mention of that name, I feel my stomach ache. In fact KB is a good person. I don’t know where he gets the courage to smile back to this thief.

Ambrose Carson Ahabwe U assure him how the heaven is for the righteous not evil thinking and dreadful Kiggundu.
Mbaraka Zuberi Ewangu But #Kiggundu is not the first person for #Besigye to meet and greet with a smiling face, The President is just naturally a forgiving person. How many times has he met #Kayihura and greeted him with a smiling face.

Kagimu Yusuf Spot on, Sam Rwakoojo was the real boss @ E.C, Kiggundu was just a mere office messenger.

However, one came in defense of Kiggundu.

Sadam Ssenoga You fools, he was the only 1 among 100 war men.
