The burial of Jacques Bihozagara, a former minister of Social Services in the first post-Genocide cabinet in Rwanda, is slated for Friday April 15.
The deceased, who also at one time served as Rwanda’s Ambassador to Belgium died in a prison in Burundi, where he had been incarcerated since December last year on charges of spying for his country, Rwanda.
Bihozagara’s body was returned home on April 5, after the governments of Rwanda and Burundi traded sharp words following his death.
According to sources, by press time today the Rwanda Police had completed an autopsy as demanded by the deceased’s family but was yet to release the results.
Relations between Rwanda and Burundi sunk to an all time low when the latter accused its eastern neighbor of training rebels to fight the Bujumbura regime.
Rwanda denies the accusations but this has not stopped the suspicion between the two countries which have a history of mass killings, the most prominent being the 1994 Genocide in Rwanda in which about a million Rwandans were killed in just 100 days.
