Long serving minister General Moses Ali, 77, is today set to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee after he missed the initial process in June while indisposed.
Gen Ali, the 1st Deputy premier, had been lined up to be vetted alongside fellow senior minsters Kirunda Kivejinja (2nd Deputy Premier), Janet Kataaha Museveni (Education), Muruli Mukasa (Public Service), Amelia Kyambadde (Trade, Industry and Cooperatives), Jeje Odongo (Internal Affairs), Vincent Ssempijja Bamulangaki (Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries) but said he had issues with pressure and diabetes. The General has a wound on the right leg resulting from his diabetic ailment but his office says his condition is currently under control.
According to Gen Ali, a team of medics at Nsambya supervised by Dr. Silver Bahendeka looked after him well before he returned home in Naguru, a Kampala suburb where he has been recovering.
Pointing out the enormous contributions to nation building over the years, the General asked the media not to present him in a bad light.
Gen Ali, alongside Second Deputy Prime Minister Kirunda Kivejinja and Justice minister Kahinda Otafiire, are the longest-serving cabinet ministers in the NRM government.
In 1990 Gen Ali did a stint in Luzira prison on allegations of involvement in subversive activities but bounced back in Cabinet on release a year later.
He lost the East Moyo County seat in 2006 and was subsequently dropped from Cabinet. He however, bounced back as MP in 2011 and was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business.
