The management of Victoria University Uganda (VUU) has said its sacked staff was not meeting the working conditions as stipulated in the guidelines.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source said the lecturers were not teaching the mandatory 20 hours a week, with most instead choosing to ‘moonlight’ in other universities and tertiary institutions.
“There has been no value for money; those fired have not been performing as agreed to in their contracts,” the management source said on phone today.
The Chairperson of the University Council Dr. David Matovu Byatike yesterday announced the sacking of several senior staff who resolved not to report for work effective November 1.
Established in 2011, Victoria University Uganda is one of the several educational institutions that are owned by tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia. It is accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education and offers diplomas and degrees.
Meanwhile, some of the sacked staff reportedly include Dr Patience Muwanguzi, Maximus Byamukama, Dr Francis Waiswa and Dr Martha Kibuuka-Musoke.
Efforts to get comment from either of them were by press time, fruitless.
