The Parliamentary Commission budgeted for Shs150 million for every MP but Finance Ministry and the Treasury agreed to release Shs100 million this financial year as the balance of Shs50 million will be released next financial year.
Chris Obore, the Director of Communication and Public Affairs at Parliament confirmed the release.
“Parliament has received a release of Shs25bn for payment of vehicle grant to MPs.The money will cater for at least 250 MPs out of 431. The Parliamentary Commission will first pay new MPs”
Mr Obore also clarified that those legislators with election petitions will not get the vehicles as they await court appeals to determine those that will remain in the house.
“The new MPs to get first are those without election petitions in court. The old MPs will be paid when the Commission gets a new release”
