Four Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) law enforcement officers have been sent on suspension, following footage that showed them involved in the inhuman treatment of a street vendor.
By press time details of the errant officers were scanty, and efforts to contact KCCA Spokesperson Peter Kaujju were futile as he did not pick his phone on known number 0712242375.
However, the behaviour of the KCCA officers that went viral on social media about a week ago, has reportedly led the Authority to crack the whip on its perpetually errant law enforcement staff whose actions even led to the death of a toddler, Ryan Semaganda, who was crashed by a KCCA vehicle in the Authority’s yard in November 2014.
“These KCCA staff (law enforcement) behave as if they own the city; no body knows how they were recruited and they are unprofessional in their conduct,” one vendor said.
The rush action by the law enforcement officers followed a directive by Kampala Minister Beti Kamya, ordering all vendors off the streets of the city. The directive led to a disagreement between Ms Kamya and the Lord Mayor, who called for an orderly transition of the process.
