Police boss, Gen. Kayihura and CIID Grace Akullo

KAMPALA: President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday evening took swipe at police, saying the force has been infiltrated by the criminals who are killing people in different parts of the country.

He ordered the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura to clean up the force especially the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Directorate.

“Policemen leak information to the criminals. That’s why the public fears to give information. And that’s why people say ‘I can only talk to Museveni” Mr. Museveni said.

Adding “So police have been infiltrated by the criminals. So, Kale [Gen. Kale Kayihura], you must clean the police especially CIID,”

The President said the police officers conniving with the criminals are contributing to the ongoing killings in the different parts of the country.

He gave an example of killing of Senior Principal State Attorney Joan Kagezi who killed in a similar manner by the killers riding on Boda Boda whom he said there was evidence but police didn’t do much.

“There was evidence but police didn’t do enough,” he said.

He blamed police officers who connive with the suspects and instead arrest complainants. He gave an example of Rakai where people were allegedly arrested for complaining about killings allegedly perpetuated by Kampala businessman Ponsiano Rwakataka.

“There were a criminal who was killing people in Rakai. But instead of arresting the criminal, police arrested people who brought information,” he said.
