The Ministry of Health has issued a statement refuting the presence of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Uganda.
According to a release signed by Dr. Anthony Mbonye, the Acting Director General of Health Services, the one suspected case, that of a woman from Mocope Village, Paridi parish in Adjumani district, returned negative results for the Ebola virus after tests at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe.
However, the Ministry says that despite the ‘good news’, the country is still on high alert, with screening taking place at the Entebbe International Airport entry point, mostly for travellers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The ministry has also asked the leadership in 14 districts to reactivate the respective task forces. The districts are: Kampala, Wakiso, Kisoro, Kanungu, Kasese, Bundibugyo and Hoima. Others are Bulisa, Nebbi, Arua, Maracha, Koboko, Kibale and Kabale.
