The Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has suspended today’s morning session, after the Amuru Woman MP Lucy Akello said there were ‘soldiers’ on the precincts of Parliament.
“Why are soldiers invading our places of worship? I am not happy with what is happening. Why do we pretend?” Ms. Akello asked, ostensibly in reference to a group of uniformed security personnel that had reportedly occupied the Catholic Chapel at Parliament.
Ms. Akello also said that music instruments in the chapel had been destroyed.
In an attempt at responding to Ms. Akello’s claims, Solomon Silwanyi, the Bukooli Central MP (NRM) wondered: “It is true there were soldiers there and they were praying?”
However, Silwanyi’s question did not go down well with Aruu County MP Samuel Odonga Otto, who stood up to bay for Silwanyi’s blood, with the ensuing chaos forcing the Speaker to suspend proceedings.
“I have suspended the House so that we establish the allegations,” the Speaker ruled.
The developments follow the acrimonious debate of the age limit removal that has split the country down the middle, with those against the Bill flouted by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi saying it is aimed a paving the way for a ‘Museveni life presidency’.
