Nixon Agasiirwe denied bail by court martial

The former police Special Operations Unit Nixon Agasiirwe has been denied bail by Makindye general court martial chairman Lt. Gen. Andrew Guti.
SSP Agasirwe and other suspects including Commissioner of Police (CP) Joel Aguma were last year arrested in relation to the alleged 2013 kidnap of Lt. Joel Mutabazi, a former presidential guard in Rwanda, and one Jackson Karemera, who were reportedly deported back to Rwanda.
Appearing before court, the Gen. Guti said sureties that had been presented who include among SSP Andrew Kaggwa, the commander operations in the Field Force Unit of the police force and Fortunate Habyara, former Commander Professional Standards Unit didn’t seek permission from the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura as per police standing orders.
‘’We dismiss his bail application, on grounds that he might interfere with the ongoing investigations ’’. Gen Guti ruled.
According to prosecution, in 2013 SSP Nixon Agasirwe and his co-accused, contrary to the Penal Code Act, arrested Lt. Mutabazi, a former Republican Guard (Presidential Guard) officer who had run away from Rwanda to Uganda citing persecution, and handed him over back to Rwandan authorities.
Lt. Mutabazi was subsequently tried in Rwanda and given a life sentence by a military court. They are also having a host of other charges pending
