Must read

Kampala: President Museveni and the deputy Premier of china Wang Yang have commissioned 49.5 kilometers Kampala -Entebbe expressway that was constructed by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

The construction of Kampala- Entebbe expressway project was commissioned in 2012 on US$ 476 loan that was acquired from EXIM Bank and scheduled to be paid in a period of 20 years.

Speaking at the commissioning of the project, Museveni said expressway is part of the measures to decongest the Central Business District to enhance Trade movement through, within and out of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Museveni  lauded the government of china for rendering a hand in the improvement of transport system in Uganda, “ the state own company CCCC has handled various projects schwa as  Kakumiro-Kibale- Kagadi road that is yet to be finished, among other projects,”

“The express way has enhanced the Chinese support and relationship with Uganda since most road projects in Uganda have been handled by Chinese’s companies such as china railway construction group (CRCG), Isimba power dam, china international water and electric company among others,” he said at the Mpala pay plaza.

“Most of the construction materials that were used are locally sourced. The express way created over 65,000 jobs for both Ugandans and Chinese community,” said Museveni.

“You (Ugandans) are used to free things, but this road will be accessed after paying or when you are going to pay because as long you enter the road there is no escape route because you will be required to go through at any of the three plazas of Busega, Kajjansi and Mpala. This little money will help us to clear the acquired load the was used in the construction,”

However in his remarks Mr. Wang said Kampala -Entebbe expressway is the first longest Expressway that China has ever constructed in their projects and applauded Uganda fro always availing job to Chinese companies.

Express way will not be accessed by motorcyclists and pedestrians to high recommended speed of over 100km/hr.

According to Uganda national roads authority (UNRA), body has not decided on the minimum amount of money the will be paid upon accessing the road.
