Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwany and Vice Chairperson for National Resistance Movement (NRM) Caucus was forced to evacuate Naluwerere Polling over allegations that he was armed with a pistol.
Voters say the legislator stormed Naluwerere Polling Station bribing voters with money.
His presence however attracted an angry mob that narrowly lynched him hadn’t he pepper sprayed them and disappeared in the safety of police that escorted him out of the polling station.
Kasese Municipality MP Robert Centenary who received part of sprayed pepper a victim of pepper spray said, police just looked on as MP Silwanyi tried to disorganize the election process.
A few minutes after his departure, one of the candidate in the race Counsel Asuman Basalirwa arrived and cast his vote. He called for calm saying he will emerge winner of the hotly contested by-election.
Forum for Democratic Candidate (FDC) candidate, Eunice Namatende, cast her ballot at Ndokya East Polling Station. She implored NRM to follow the law and keep peace.
Deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango refuted allegations of MP Silwany having a pistol at the polling station. He said they managed to rescue him from the polling station and the election process continued.
When contacted, the spokesperson for Electoral Commission Jotham Taremwa said sanity had been restored at the polling station
