Independent Presidential Candidate Rtd Gen Henry Tumukunde has rallied the people of Bukedi to vote for change come the 2021 general elections next month.
Tumukunde today campaigned in the districts of Budaka, Butalejja and Busia where he promised to support rice farmers in Butalejja districts through giving them farm tools and capacity building and value addition.
“Farmers put in a lot but their return on investment is low because there is no proper intervention by the government to see that they benefit from their work. I have been told that there is a land title which is supposed to be given to a certain group of rice growers but up to now they have not received it and this is mainly due to the friction between government and farmers,” he said.
“My government will be able to avail that land title for you to continue growing rice. We shall make sure that the title is owned by cooperative where shares are listed and where you can as well be able to sell your shares,” he said.
He pledged to improve the road network connecting Butalejja to the neighbouring districts to facilitate the movement of both people and trade activities.
He promised to approach young people in the area to avail them opportunities in terms of growing, processing, packaging, selling and as well as exporting rice to the available markets in the neighbouring countries.
