Ssegirinya further remanded to Kitalya

Must read

Kawempe North Member of Parliament-elect Muhammad Segirinya has been denied bail and sent back to Kitalya Government Prison.

Segirinya was arrested on March 22nd for leading an unlawful peaceful protest demanding for the release of National Unity Platform-NUP members. He was intercepted at Mini price in Kampala, holding plycards bearing messages demanding the release of the detained party supporters.

Today, his Lawyers Jonathan Kiryowa and Shamim Malende appeared in Court not ready for the hearing of the case but for his bail application.

The trial could not proceed because his Lawyers did not approach the State for disclosure of its intended evidence to enable them prepare Ssegirinya’s defense case. The presiding Magistrate further remanded Ssegirinya saying both parties in a case have a duty to prepare for the trial.

Magistrate Kamasanyu adjourned the matter till 15th April 2021 to enable Lawyers prepare for hearing of the case.
