Former Prime Minister Dr. David Livingston Ruhakana Rugunda has said he has no intentions of contesting for presidency in 2026.
Rugunda denied social media posts that linked him to 2026 presidency ambition saying he has no such ambitions.
“I have read social media postings and suggestions that I should run for President in 2026. I would like to make it known that I have no such intentions or plans”. Dr. Rugunda wrote.
Dr Rugunda is a former Prime Minister of Uganda from 2015-2021. He replaced his close confidant John Patrick Amama Mbabazi who ran against President Yoweri Museveni in 2016 presidential race.
Both Rugunda and Mbabazi are close allies of Mr. Museveni and have worked closely with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
The former PM didn’t disclose those pushing him to contest for the highest office in the land but if there is any truth in it, he joins other former colleagues of Mr. Museveni that have competed against Mr. Museveni are these include; Dr. Kizza Besigye, Amama Mbabazi, late Maj. Gen.Benon Biraro, Maj.Gen. Mugisha Muntu and Lt.Gen. Henry Tumukunde.
Upon being dropped as Prime Minister, Dr. Rugunda was named Special Envoy for Special Duties, Office of the President.
