President Yoweri Museveni has conveyed his condolences to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan following the death of her husband, Hafidh Hassan.
He said the loss is deeply saddening and recognised his support for the Tanzanian leader’s service to her country and Africa.
In a condolence message addressed to President Samia, Museveni said he received the news of Hafidh Hassan’s passing with a lot of sadness.
“I extend the most heartfelt condolences from the brother People of Uganda and from my family and myself, to Your Excellency, your family and the People of Tanzania,” Museveni said.
The Ugandan leader praised President Samia’s leadership, saying he had witnessed her commitment to Tanzania and the African continent since her days as Vice President before she assumed the presidency.
“Ever since I started knowing you as Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania and now as President, I have witnessed your love for your country and Africa and your dedication,” he said.
Museveni said Uganda and Tanzania had achieved significant progress together on strategic projects that have strengthened regional integration and economic cooperation.
He highlighted joint initiatives including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the Murongo Kyikagate mini hydro power station, road infrastructure on the Tanzanian side of the border, the Masaka Bukoba electricity transmission line and the Standard Gauge Railway expected to connect Isaka in Tanzania to Uganda and the wider region.
The President said such achievements reflected President Samia’s unwavering commitment, adding that her late husband had played an important role in supporting her public service.
“The dedication you show must have been supported by your dear husband and family. I have met your son, Mr Abdul, a few times. It must, therefore, be a great loss to you,” Museveni said.
He concluded by praying for strength for the Tanzanian leader and her family during the period of mourning.
He prayed, “I pray that the Almighty God sees you through these dark days. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
