Victoria University has acquired a new King Long coach to improve transport services for students and staff as the institution prepares for its 10th graduation ceremony scheduled for Monday, 19.
The new bus, unveiled by the university, features comfortable passenger seats and spacious interiors, with the institution saying it will support student trips, sports activities, community outreach programmes and other university engagements.
Vice Chancellor Lawrence Muganga said the acquisition reflects the university’s commitment to quality education and improved services, arguing that institutions must demonstrate the standards they promote through their own investments and operations.
“We are a transformative university that does not accept the status quo. Quality is one of the virtues that we are really, really dominantly pursuing. So, if you are telling people about quality, you cannot leave it at talk,” Muganga said.
He said the university’s emphasis on practical learning means it must also demonstrate its values through the services and facilities it provides to students.
“When we tell people to learn by doing, whatever we communicate, we have to work what we communicate. You cannot tell people about quality education and meaningful education when you are in a junk bus,” he said.
Muganga described the new coach as a major improvement in the university’s transport arrangements, comparing the passenger experience to travelling in an aircraft on the road.
“Look at this bus. Every passenger has an experience like being in a plane on the road. We really thank Motor Centre for availing us this amazing King Long bus as we wait for another one, and another one, and another one,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor said the acquisition is intended to be the beginning of a wider investment in the university’s transport fleet, although he did not specify when additional buses would be purchased.
Muganga also used the occasion to urge other universities to invest in the quality of services they provide to learners, saying students deserve good facilities regardless of the institution they attend.
“I represent higher education, not just as Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, but also because I care about the Ugandan child. The education they receive is very important, and the quality of service they get wherever they are is equally important. It does not matter which university you go to; you deserve something great,” he said.
He recommended Motor Centre to other institutions seeking similar transport solutions, noting that the company can customise buses to meet specific requirements and budgets.
The new coach is expected to support university activities beyond routine campus transport, including educational trips, sporting engagements and outreach initiatives that connect students with communities.
The acquisition comes as Victoria University prepares for its 10th graduation ceremony on Monday, October 19, 2026, marking another milestone in the institution’s development.
The university is also continuing its October/November admissions intake, with prospective students encouraged to apply through its official website, vu.ac.ug.
Victoria University, located in Kampala, offers higher education programmes and promotes practical, career-oriented learning as part of its approach to preparing students for the workplace.
The university says the new bus reflects its ambition to improve the student experience while strengthening the facilities and services that support teaching, learning and campus life.
