I am not Museveni’s mole Gen. Muntu speaks out

Gen. Mugisha Muntu

Forum for Democratic Change party president, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has spoken out rubbishing those branding him as mole of President Museveni within the FDC.

Speaking passionately about the future of the party today, Gen. Muntu says his committal to the party is unquestionable. Gen. Muntu who expresses interest of competing for the party presidency later on this year also dispelled those who brand him as mole within the FDC saying those committed to the struggle will always be known by their fruits.

”Some propagandist from NRM and within FDC usually bring up the debate of me being a mole of NRM whenever we approach elections in our party. The bible says they will be known by their fruits’’ I have spent most of my time working for unity, transparency, democracy and honesty which all defeat the intentions of NRM. This is what I have spent most time working upon” Gen. Muntu said.

Adding “political parties are the pillars of good governance, but if Gen. Museveni rapes the country like he promised to destroy all other parties by 2021, through creating instability in the party thus making them stay hopeless. I do not care about individuals who hobnobbed with Museveni, I only mind about the conflict they could cause to our stability”

Gen. Muntu at the leadership of Forum for Democratic Changes’ working committee has today converged at Tal Cottage hotel for a two day meeting that is aimed at reviewing the different strategies and assess their performance.

The party’s President Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu addressed the media just before joining his colleagues for the meeting and he made different pronouncements.

“FDC is a stable party though we always have different opinions, these contradictions happen in politics, we as FDC have the capability and internal mechanisms to solve them, our internal atmosphere is fully established through the cohesion”. Gen. Muntu said.

While commenting about FDC choice of sending two contenders for EALA, Gen. Muntu says “We sent both candidates because we never had prior communications about the regulations from the Speaker of Parliament, the two slots were initially for FDC and we have resolved that in case we are only accorded one position then we will send one representative but we have not been briefed about it and I do not see why people are still confused about that”

He said the FDC is building a strong foundation and they have confidence that the party which can stay progressive even after our generation.

“We had planned to win 2016 election which we won but out victory was stolen. Look at the way most NRM MPs are losing their seats due to failures of the Electoral Commission, there is corruption in most institutions which explains why they have all lost integrity”.

Sheebah threatens to take Club Music Awards to Court over nominations

Sheeba

Following a four year hiatus, the Club Music Video Awards are back.
But unlike the previous edition where artistes yearned to get a node in the awards, it appears many have lost interest in the same with time.

Among those who are not interested include Bebe Cool and the latest to reject the awards is Queen Sheebah.

The ‘Kisasi Kimu’ hit maker who was among the most nominated artistes, with three nods revealed she isn’t interested in the awards the very reason she hadn’t submitted in her video.
Through her Manager Allan Kiwa, he said the awards were not worthy the efforts and money they invested in their projects (music videos).
“Having put into consideration how much work, effort, money and sleepless nights that go in to bring out projects, we clearly understood the amount of shade being thrown at our work with these nominations. Therefore, we as the management team behind Sheebah Karungi choose to exit the CMVA,” he writes in a post on Instagram.

He further threatened to sue the organisers if they don’t heed to their request and withdraw Sheebah from the awards.

“We kindly advise that you comply to our request before we seek legal advice,” he added.

This came just hours after Bebe Cool, who had two nods in the awards made the same request. The organisers, indeed granted his request and withdrew him.

India Vice President Ansari for 3-day official visit to Uganda

India’s Vice President Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari

India’s Vice President Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari will be in Uganda for a three-day official visit at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni.

Mr. Ansari will arrive on February 21, 2017 and will be received by the Vice President Edward Sekandi according to a joint statement by State House and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda.

“During the visit, the Vice-President will meet his Ugandan counterpart, Sekand. He will also interact with the Indian community in Kampala,” said Vikas Swarup, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson of India.

Nina Malhotra, joint secretary in Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said that this will be the first high-level bilateral visit from India to Uganda since 1997.

“The forthcoming visit of the Vice-President is part of the conscious broadening of India’s diplomatic footprint in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially in the Great Lakes region,” she said in a statement.

President Museveni has visited India twice on State visits and also visited New Delhi on a private visit in September, 2011 and the Vice President of Uganda also visited India to attend the 9th CII-EXIM Bank Conclave in New Delhi in 2013.

India’s engagement with Uganda is at three levels including at the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and at the bilateral level.

Following the first India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-I) in 2008, Uganda was nominated by the AU to host the India-Africa Institute of Foreign Trade (IAIFT), one of the five institutes offered by India at the Pan-African level. The institute will impart world-class training in International Business and Management, develop entrepreneurial skills and promote research in foreign trade.

At the second India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-II) in 2011, a Food-Processing Business Incubation Centre was offered to be set-up in Uganda.

In addition, a tele-medical centre has been set up in Mulago Hospital where several diagnostic equipment, such as ECG, X-Ray, Ultrasound, etc., have also been set up as part of the project. The centre is connected to 11 reputed Indian hospitals to ensure world-class medical consultation and treatment for patients and medical education for students. A tele-education centre has been set up at Makerere University. These initiatives will help Ugandans access medical care and education from India at a fraction of cost. These centres were inaugurated in August, 2010 by Foreign Ministers of both the countries.

KAMADHI SERIES: Hunger, ‘padshake’ and ‘holy rice’ dominate debate

A CALL FOR HELP

Insect Professor Maurice Ogeng Ladit has just from a foreign trip where he was hired for some consultancy work on parasitic insects like leeches and lice.

During his short stint away, lawyer Rebecca Kagada kept the club astir with her legalese, while Joel Kamadhi provided his usual banter that kept members ‘alive’ during the sittings where he has booked a permanent seat next to club belle Gaudensia Mbaroraburora.

“Have you people heard that millions of Ugandans are facing starvation? Isn’t that a huge portion of the population of Uganda? Kamadhi asked, kicking off the discussion.

‘Insect Professor’ Ladit answered in the affirmative before telling members that drought had hit almost the whole of the East African region including Uganda, but mostly the Horn countries of Somalia and Ethiopia, necessitating food and monetary interventions.

“But in Uganda what happened to the silos where grain was kept to enhance food security?” Yorokamu Bwambale, the usually-reserved guy from the Rwenzori region, asked.

“Ah, we used to have Produce Marketing Board (PMB), but I don’t know what happened to it; I even never heard about it being privatized,” Kamadhi said.

“You have said so much about drought and hunger, but are you members aware that teenage and adolescent school going girls are not going to get the pads they were promised in the campaigns?” Chairman Bonnabagaga Akalyamaggwa said, diverting the hunger and drought topic temporarily.

“I think it is about time we hear about other handshakes; one from the person who made the campaign promise and another, a ‘benevolent handshake’ from all the women who were the beneficiaries of the ‘original six billion handshake’,” he added.

But lawyer Rebecca K interrupted the Chairman, asking him what type of handshake he meant. “As far as I am concerned, there is only one handshake, and that is the one where some 36 or 42 Ugandans were paid Shillings six billions as reward for their diligent work,” lawyer Rebecca K challenged the chairman.

But Chairman was not done.

“You see”, he started off, “on the original list of beneficiaries there are three ladies who head big parastatals and their combined financial perks in a month amount to about 500 million shillings; if they can also offer the unfortunate school girls a ‘handshake’, then the ‘handshake country’ will somehow realize why it is important to shake hands,” Akalyamaggwa said.

“And again, didn’t I hear one of them write to the President about ‘leaving a legacy’ while soliciting for the handshake; in which better way can the beneficiaries of the original handshake leave a legacy other than contribute to the less privileged?” Akalyamaggwa asked. Indeed, the contribution of the benevolent women, should it ever materialise, should be called ‘padshake’.

Then Insect Professor Ogeng Ladit interjected: “I have also heard that those ladies attend a church of a very powerful pastor in Bunga on the outskirts of Kampala, where they contribute generously on Sundays, so they can also rub off part of that generosity onto the young girls who are now about to drop out of school for lack of pads.”

“The trio also has the unofficial duty of appearing together and sharing the same table at almost all public functions, flashing plastic smiles while at the same time leaving a trail of opulent laissez-faire that is even the envy of more educated women,” lawyer Rebecca K weighed in chidingly on Insect Professor Ladit’s comment, leaving almost all members in uncontrolled laughter!

“Who are those women you are denigrating like that?” Gaudensio Mbaroraburora aka Club Belle asked absentmindedly, before the Chairman, Akalyamaggwa, ruled her out of order. “Our policy here is ‘no naming names please’”, he clarified.

The Hitler Eregu, the Teso turncoat seized the moment. “Someone talked about the church and the opulent behavior of our so-called Pastors,” Eregu started off, asking: “have you heard about a city ‘prophet’ who is selling ‘Holy Rice’ at  Shs50.000  a kilo?”

According to Eregu, it is the same prophet who has been selling ‘Holy Water’ at about 100,000 shillings.

“Tusaba gavumenti etuyambe! How can Ugandans get fleeced while the police just looks on? Can the prophet prove that his rice is holy? And anyway, don’t our law statutes provide for the possibility of charging him with ‘obtaining money by false pretense’?” Eregu wondered, and looked lawyer Rebecca K direct in the face, waiting for her opinion.

“Well, if police pick interest in the matter, there might be interesting developments; but for now we all can just speculate as to whether they will call him in,” lawyer Rebecca K answered guardedly.

At this point the Chairman called the sitting to order, and announced that two members, Joel Kamadhi and Gaudensia Mbaroraburora, would soon make a ‘statement of intent’.

“Please, accord our two members the best,” Chairman Akalyamaggwa said before calling upon Kamadhi to say the closing prayer, after which the members dispersed.

Trump backs off Muslim travel ban suspension

US President Donald Trump on Thursday, February 16, dropped his appeal of a court ruling that suspended his travel ban on refugees and travelers from seven predominantly Muslim nations.

However, Trump has said he would replace the measure with a modified version.

The Justice Department announced the move in a brief filed with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.

It said the new order would address complaints from a three-judge panel that parts of the order were unconstitutional.

‘Rather than continuing this litigation, the President intends in the near future to rescind the Order and replace it with a new, substantially revised Executive Order to eliminate what the panel erroneously thought were constitutional concerns’, the statement read.

Recall that barely a week in office, President Trump approved some executive orders that include visa denial for citizens of Syria and six other middle eastern and African countries.

‘Prophet’ Kakande’s ‘holy rice’ causes public uproar

FRAUDSTER? Prophet Samuelm Kakande of the 'Holy Rice' fame

‘Prophet’ Samuel Kakande of the Synagogue Church of Uganda has yet again ratcheted controversy with his ‘miracle’ rice, which he is allegedly selling for Shs50, 000 compared to the market price of ‘ordinary’ rice which is Shs3, 000.

Apparently, the Pastor’s rice is blessed and will do miracles especially for the many Ugandans yearning to get jobs, visas, twins, a dream car or house. This has raised a lot of controversy within the public, with social media carrying thousands of negative comments against the ‘Prophet’ and other Pentecostals of his ilk.

Formerly, Kakande’s ‘miracles’ were distributed through hankies and ‘holy water’, where thousands of people lined up every weekend for the water that costs Shs10,000 for half a litre.

Indeed, Kakande is a man hardly out of controversy. Recently, he was summoned by Parliament over allegations of illegal sand mining in Kalungu district. However, using his influence, he skipped the summons and has never appeared in parliament till today.

Weeks earlier, his deputy, Pastor Johnson Muwanguzi had been arrested for being in illegal possession of two assault rifles and nearly 100 bullets, as confirmed at the time by Police spokesperson Andrew Kaweesi. Muwanguzi claimed the guns belonged to his boss (Pastor Kakande) who however, denied having any knowledge of the deadly weapons.

In the late 2000’s one of his pastors, Ghanaian born Reverend Kojo Obiri Yeboah was arrested at Entebbe airport and interrogated about an electric shock machine which he had just received from Europe.

This followed suspicions that the Ghanaian pastor intended to use the 12-volt machine to feign supernatural powers, by shocking his congregation to the ground during prayers.

Kojo was a businessman-turned preacher and son to the late prophet John Obiri Yeboah, who lived and preached in Uganda over 20 years ago.

His father owned the Redeemed Church of the Lord Ministries, a powerful association with a string of churches and property in Ghana, England, Italy and other parts of the world. Yeboah died in Uganda in 1987 and a power struggle ensued among leading ministers over who had inherited his powers. Upon Yeboah’s death, Kakande built his grave in Ghana, where Yeboah was buried in the regalia of a traditional African witchdoctor.

It is said that Kakande, his wife Loyce and protégé Godfrey Lule arranged and subsequently supported the return to Uganda of Yeboah’s sons, with Kojo first visiting Uganda in 2006.

The three had worked with the younger Yeboah’s father in the 1970s and 1980s.

Meanwhile, in 2006, Kakande was disowned by the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (NFBPCU), following allegations by Pastor Male that the former was practicing witchcraft.

At the time Male, who said he joined the Kakandes on May 29, 1988 believing the couple was rightly called by God, said he was shocked when he ‘came face to face with the truth’.

“As the couple’s co-pastor, I witnessed a lot of evil committed in the name of “Jesus of Prophet John Obiri Yeboah”. The pastors used the dead Yeboah’s spirit to perform miracles and to torment and destroy purported enemies,” he said then in an interview with the New Vision.

“They wrote and issued paper talismans; used stinking stuff mixed with water to sprinkle on followers to destroy enemies; and abetted their followers in animal sacrifices and the use of traditionally biased witchcraft materials, all indicative of witchcraft powers. They had divination powers and were fond of cursing while invoking prophet Yeboah’s name,” he was quoted as saying.

In the months that followed, after testifying against Kakande, Male was arrested and a defamation case OB NO E/185/93 was opened against him at the CID headquarters, homicide department.

“The Kakandes accused me of defaming them and the Holy Church of Christ. I was arrested on August 16, 1993, spent one night in a Wandegeya Police Station cell and was released on Police Bond on August 17, 1993. On August 19, 1993, I made a 21-page statement at the CID headquarters, citing witchcraft, destruction, marriage break-ups and other evils committed by the couple, concluding that the couple was counterfeit, using the Bible as cover-up for their satanic powers and practices. In conclusion, I said witnesses could verify it. The investigating officer was surprised to see so many people willing to give evidence in my favour.

“When I went back on the appointed day, Akida (police detective) smiled when he saw me, and said, ‘Pastor Male, I have good news for you. Sit down. ‘I met pastor Kakande and his wife, and had an in-depth discussion with them. He (Kakande) admitted that it is only you and them who know the truth about what really happened, and for that matter, he has decided not to pursue the matter anymore. He has withdrawn all the charges, and you are now a free man.’”

Bebe Cool rejects music award

FLASHBACK: Bebe Cool at HiPipo Music Awards 2014 Artiste of The Year. This year he has been nominated for Listeners' Choice award.

Early this week Bebe Cool requested all local awards organisers never to nominate him. This was in response to allegations that he owns Hipipo music awards.

Well, some thought he was joking and among those were organisers of the Club Music Video Awards, who went ahead to nominate Bebe Cool hours after he issued the request. He was among this year’s nominees, getting a nod in the Viral, Video and Choreography categories.

However, on hearing about the nomination, Bebe Cool asked the organisers to immediately withdraw his name from their awards list, which they did.

“Club Pilsner would like to confirm that Bebe Cool has officially been withdrawn from the Viral Video and Choreography categories in which he was nominated as he (Bebe Cool) requested,” reads a statement by Club Pilsner, the organisers of the awards.

Bebe Cool is not the first musician to request local award organisers to exclude them from their awards.

Recently, Zizza Bafana and Gravity Omutujju requested the organisers of the Hipipo awards to exclude them from their awards, citing bias.

‘Pastor’ Mondo Mugisha to pray for ‘Devil’s Queen’

CONTROVERSIAL: W (Left) Hakeem Ssempebwa aka Keem showing off his 'pregnancy' and (R) while at the police the 'breasts' and baby bump' disappeared!

It’s just a few days since the release of self-declared devil’s queen, one Keem Black, who has made himself a name online by not only claiming to be a lady, but also dressing like a woman.

Following his release, renowned city pastor, Franklin Mondo Mugisha of Empowerment Christian Centre Church International has offered to pray for Keem, real names Hakeem Ssempebwa.

“This guy needs help; his head needs prayer , I have seen many of his like he can be helped that’s not smile it’s DEMONIC…His understanding changed,” Mondo Mugisha wrote on social media, reacting to one of the videos posted by Keem.

Keem claims to be pregnant and a bulge around his belly area could be seen through his clothes. Interestingly however, this all disappeared while Keem was at police.

In the photographs while at the police station, his ‘breasts’ and ‘baby bump’ all disappeared. Perhaps this is the reason why a one Nyombi got worried for pregnant women.

Margarittah Henry Nyombi: Pregnant women out there should be care full coz such fools are the ones who end up stealing babies in hospitals and in pples home especially new Borns Gen. Kaihura should help us here.

Keem, a ‘confessed sex worker’ was arrested at the weekend over insulting Farouk Ssempala, Zari’s ex-boyfriend.

“Unless I don’t put ma effort into something that I’ll let it pass. Let him/her serve as an example to those who abuse, bully, name tag others…. And hide behind social media. It’s cybercrime,” Ssempala warned Keem.

Keem was released on Monday on police bond.

Burundi government out of mediation talks

ORDERED ON MARRIAGES: Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza

The government of Burundi has said it will not attend peace talks scheduled to resume in Tanzania today, although the main opposition alliance has confirmed its participation.

The talks are meant to find an end to a violent political crisis that began in 2015 after President Pierre Nkurunziza said he would seek a third term – a move opponents said violated the constitution and a peace deal that ended an ethnically charged civil war.

“The government of Burundi finds some irregularities in the organization of this present session,” a government statement said on Wednesday. Spokesman Phillipe Nzobonariba said the government objected to the presence of senior UN adviser Benomar Jamal, but did not say why.

The government has repeatedly accused the UN of bias against it after several human rights groups have said the security forces and ruling party have committed abuses.

FACILITATOR: Former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa addressing delegates at the just-concluded Inter-Burundi Dialogue

The main opposition grouping, CNARED, said it would attend the talks although it has previously accused mediator Benjamin William Mkapa, a former president of Tanzania, of bias.

Mkapa said in December that Nkurunziza was legitimate and that mediators should focus on setting up elections for 2020.

The violence in Burundi has alarmed people in a region where memories of the 1994 genocide in neighboring Rwanda remain raw.
