Man kills woman for allegedly infecting him with HIV

Handcuffs

The Police in Wakiso, has in custody a prime suspect, who in conspiracy with 3 other brothers, murdered a 40 year old, woman friend of his, for allegedly infecting him with HIV.

The prime suspect Bwambale Jona alias master, after finding out that he was HIV positive, blamed it on his woman friend, Nassali Juliet, aged 40. It is alleged that the suspect was recently depressed and extremely frustrated after learning that he had HIV Aids, and put the blame to the victim.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, the facts gathered so far, indicate that on the 18th of September, 2021, the victim was seen while drinking at Mende Central village, Mende sub-county, Wakiso district, with the suspect and others, at a local village bar, after which they left together.

“Unfortunately, the following day of 19 September, 2021, the victim was found murdered, with multiple bruises all over body, a deep depression on the right forehead, and the body abandoned a distance of 150 metres from her house. There was no evidence of sexual violence on the body of the deceased,” Enanga said.

The police sniffer dog led a team of detectives to the house of Bwambale Jona alias master where he was arrested, with two of his brothers Ntale Ronald and Kule Jona. A fourth suspect was identified as Kakooza Jamil. Upon search at his home, suspected blood stained clothes were recovered in addition to a pair of black open sandals, recovered from the scene.

“We do strongly condemn such sexually motivated crimes. The motivation was uncalled for, as there is no proof on the timing of the infection and any further linkage to the victim. As a country, we are a lead model in the fight and awareness of HIV Aids, its safeguards and on positive living,” Enanga said in a statement on Monday.

“Where someone gets infected, they should know that HIV is not a death sentence or ticket. One can continue living positively and stay healthy for a lifetime.  Such incidents therefore, call for more and better counselling drives, in the community.”

Police has been investigating Onebe and security guard Bonny Oriokot over the murder of Immaculate Onebe.

“Onebe Francis together with his home guard Bony who allegedly murdered Mrs.Immaculate Asio Onebe have been charged of Murder C/S 188 &189 of the Penal Code Act. The two will appear today 21st Sept 2021 at Makindye Court at 10:00Am” CID Spokesperson Charles Twiine said.

But upon arrest, Onebe said he was traveling for treatment, and his earlier reasons to travel to Nairobi also indicated appointments with doctors.

The arrest also followed the nabbing of a former security guard of Onebe who sneaked into the home. It is averred that the guard identified as Okariot disappeared moments after Onebe’s wife went missing.

In January, Onebe reported the case of missing wife Immaculate Onebe at Kabalagala police alleging that his wife was kidnapped by security agencies which were moving in a ‘drone’. He mounted a search for his wife, visiting the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) in Mbuya and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID); however he failed to locate her.

Money seized from Equatorial Guinea VP to be spent on #Covid-19 jabs

VP Teodorin Obiang

The US justice department says that $26.6m (£20m) seized from Equatorial Guinea’s Vice-President Teodorin Nguema Obiang Mangue will be spent on #Covid-19 vaccines and other medical programmes in the West African state.

“Wherever possible, kleptocrats will not be allowed to retain the benefits of corruption,” an official said in a statement.

Obiang was forced to sell a mansion in Malibu, California, a Ferrari and various Michael Jackson memorabilia as part of a settlement he reached with the US authorities in 2014 after being accused of corruption and money-laundering. He denied the charges.

The agreement stated that $10.3m of the money from the sale would be forfeited to the US and the rest would be distributed to a charity or other organisation for the benefit of the people of Equatorial Guinea, the justice department said.

The UN is to receive $19.25m to purchase and administer #Covid-19 vaccines to at least 600,000 people in Equatorial Guinea, while a US-based charity is to get $6.35m for other medical programmes in Equatorial Guinea.

Police have warned the aggrieved  Kyambogo students who are dissatisfied with the court ruling to drop their plans of staging a demonstration on the graduation day set to kick off today.

In a joint meeting held at Kyambogo University on Monday afternoon, police revealed that they had received information that there were students who had planned to disrupt the graduation, because they are not satisfied with the court ruling.

On Friday Last week, the High Court in Kampala dismissed an application filed on September 14, 2021, by 45 students who sought a halt to the graduation ceremony fixed for September 21 to 23,  2021 because their names were missing from the list of graduands.

Mission Samuel, the Chief Security Officer of Kyambogo University, said that the preparations by security are in high gear and that they are set to handle whoever is trying to fail the graduation process.

Professor Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, the Vice-Chancellor of Kyambogo University without mentioning the names, said that this group of people is motivated by some politicians and that they are using students who failed to fulfill the University requirements for them to be on the graduation list.

“These are students who failed exams and most of them had retakes, so they fear what they will tell their parents and guardians because they will not graduate with the rest. Such students should abort their plans of disrupting us because we are prepared for them”  Katunguka said.

ASP Rogers Namanya, the East Kampala Metropolitan Police Acting Regional Traffic Officer told Journalists that Kyambogo University will be out of bound for the public and only the invited guests and those other authorized people will be allowed in the university.

NSSF pays Shs1.8bn to #Covid-19 patients

NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba

The National Social Security Fund has announced that it paid Shs 1,785,943,795 to its members that were severely diagnosed with #Covid-19.

The fund had made a commitment to its members that it would step in for severe cases that involved those admitted in Intensive Care Units and those on life support in several health facilities to supplement on medical expenses.

“NSSF has paid out Shs1,785,943,795 to qualifying members who were diagnosed with #Covid-19. Here’s how paying Annet’s Invalidity Benefit in three days enabled life-saving medical care,” reads a message on the fund’s twitter handle.

NSSF in June said members battling #Covid-19 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) would be given an option to access part of their benefits under the invalidity benefits provision.

Richard Byarugaba, the NSSF Managing Director, told Daily Monitor that the Fund had already helped some members in that regard. However, he did not provide specifics on how many members had approached NSSF in this regard or how much had been paid out.

“It is an invalidity benefit. Basically, it is a benefit which is available to members who are either incapacitated or are not able to work. And since we have seen that #Covid-19 can sometimes result in serious medication, the [NSSF doctor] assesses and then authorizes it [pay out],” he was quoted adding that the assessment for the payout is done in less than a week.

Mr Byarugaba noted that the payout would purely be based on the discretion of the NSSF doctor, who after assessing submitted documents, will authorise the payout.

NSSF has since last year been swarmed by request from both members and the public to create a provision in which members, whose income sources have been affected by #Covid-19 access part of their benefits to shore them out of the hard times.

Orthodox Archbishop Jonah Lwanga laid to rest at St. Nicholas Cathedral Namungoona

The late Archbishop Jonah Lwanga laid to rest at St. Nicholas Cathedral Namungoona

The late Archbishop of Uganda Orthodox Church Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga has been laid to rest at St. Nicholas Cathedral Namungoona. The Archbishop breathed his last on September 5, 2021 in Greece’s capital Athens where he had gone for a visit.

According to Reverend Father John Kibuuka Bbosa, the prelate succumbed to prostate cancer. “An autopsy of the late Lwanga as provided to the Church on Monday evening by the hospital where he died in Athens, confirmed the cause of  his death,” Fr. Kibuuka said.

At the final send off, President Yoweri Museveni through Vice President Jessica Alupo eulogized the late Archbishop saying that his death has robbed the country. “His wise counsel on matters of governance and human rights will be missed,” Museveni said.

Vice-President, who is also the chief mourner, said President Museveni will at a later date lay a wreath on the burial site of the late Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga. She said the Government will tomorrow move a motion in Parliament to honour the late Orthodox leader for his contribution to the Church and to the socio-economic development of Uganda.

On behalf of Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU), Archbishop of Church of Uganda Stephen Kazimba Mugalu said the passing of Archbishop Jonah Lwanga has left a very big gap in IRCU.

He said Lwanga was passionate about unity among the different religious denominations in Uganda, as well as his ‘invincible courage’ and being an ‘ardent supporter of the Uganda national dialogue’. “We will dearly miss him.”

In a condolence message delivered by Katikkiro Charles Mayiga, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi eulogizes Archbishop Jonah Lwanga as a man who loved his culture and who was truthful.

“Archbishop Lwanga was consistent. You could not second guess him. You knew where he stood. He loved humanity from his deeds. While we are urged to love God, it is futile to love him, yet we don’t love humans who live with us. He was trusted,” Kabaka said.

The former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine said Archbishop Lwanga spoke the truth even when the truth was dangerous.

“We are proud to have him in our generation. It is dangerous that we have lost outspoken religious leaders in a short time. It is upon us to carry on the legacy as we lay him to rest. We should stand for what is right,” Bobi Wine said.

Bobi Wine said It is disturbing that in less than a year, the country has lost many outspoken religious leaders, some of them in ways that have not been explained.
