Basajja Mivule ‘joins NRM’, asks for a car

mivule basajja (left) and balaam

Veteran journalist Basajja Mivule has today joined ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM) 27 days after he was unveiled at Bobi Wine’s political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Mivule was unveiled by events promoter Balaam Barugahara at Eureka Hotel in Ntinda. He joins NRM after he was arrested over treason charges.

The political talk show host revealed that he’s ready to work with Museveni and asked for a car to help him in his activities.

Mivule who is currently on police bond, is accused of sectarianism and inciting violence when he recorded a video asking why all top security officials heading various security organs come from one region.

He earlier pledged to continue speaking against president Museveni’s leadership every time they make a mistake. He said answerer to the raised question is not to intimidate him, arrest, torture him rather to come up and explain.

He has been reporting to the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Kibuli. In the course of the journey to make Museveni accountable he has turned against NUP, a party he has just joined and its leadership.

“Bobi Wine will never be president and the incumbent Mr. Yoweri Museveni is not willing to leave state house for people benchmarking. God cannot allow drug addicts, hooligans, slanderers, abusive people, and homosexuals to get hold of Uganda’s State House. They can abuse all they want, but such people will not rule this country,” he said

He said whoever wants to promote peace and harmony should apologize and that is what I did. But people started abusing me, throwing around vulgar words. Whoever is abusing is hidden in People Power, why don’t the People Power leaders come up to guide their people against such bad behavior?

He signed documents indicating that he is ready to work with the incumbent and asked for two cars to facilitate his work.

South Korea: Plasma Donation by Shincheonji Church Facilitates Development of the Cure for COVID-19

On August 27th, over 1,000 members of religious organization called Shincheonji Church of Jesus participated in donating plasma for the cure of COVID-19. This is the second round of donation from August 27th to September 4th in Daegu by Shincheonji Church, a Christian denomination with 300,000 members globally,

Under the crisis caused by the escalating proliferation of the virus, This is carried out under the invitation of the health authorities in South Korea back on 24th, asking Shincheonji Church to cooperate for donating additional plasma for the development of the vaccine.

Early this year, around 4,000 confirmed cases were found in Shincheonji Church members with most infections from the city of Daegu, while most of them recovered from the virus with 11 deaths.

According to the report from the Korea Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (KCDC) and Shincheonji Church, 562 recovered members from the church registered to donate plasma and 628 completed donation as of August 26th through the cooperation between KCDC and Shincheonji Church. The number of donors from the church will be 1,700 when the donation is finalized in September.

Facing the need for “facilitation of developing a cure through plasma donation and clinical trial”, the KCDC asked another round of a large-scale donation by members of Shincheonji Church on August 24th.

“With the cooperation of Daegu city, Daegu Athletics Center plans to provide the space, and GC Pharma plans to provide the necessary equipment and personnel from 27th August to 4th September. We express our gratitude to the people who participated in donating plasma willingly to save other patients after recovery. We specifically express our gratitude to the congregation members of Shincheonji, Daegu city for providing a location, and Korean Red Cross,” said Mr. Kwon Jun-wook, Deputy Director of the KCDC in his two consecutive briefings on 27th and 29th.

Research and development of the convalescent plasma treatment is underway by National Institute of Health under the Ministry of Health and Welfare in cooperation with Green Cross (GC) Pharma, a biotechnology company in South Korea.

On the same day, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized an emergency use of convalescent plasma for the treatment of COVID-19. Experts say that more data need to be collected to see the benefit of such treatment.

Major challenges of researching the effectiveness and the development of convalescent plasma treatment come from limited supply from donors who must be recovered from the virus.

Chairman Lee, Man Hee of Shincheonji encouraged donation from the members. “Let us lead the effort in plasma donation so that the blood (plasma) of the congregation members can be used for overcoming COVID-19 for the citizens and the country,” he said in his letter to the members on 25th.

Bobi Wine protests alternation of his personal records on parliament website

Bobi Wine

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament and the Principal of People Power Movement, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine has expressed his dismay over the alternation of his year of birth on parliament of Uganda website.

Earlier this month, a renowned lawyer Male Mabirizi protested the MP’s year of birth saying that it is not true that Bobi wine sat for Uganda certificate of education exams at the age of 14. He went on to petition Uganda electoral commission to avail him with academic papers which the MP filed when he contested in Kyadondo East.

The availed academic papers indicate that the MP failed mathematics at ‘O’ level and general paper at ‘A’ level. This sparked discussions on whether the MP is suitable to lead the country after failing the two subjects. On the other note, the MP missed a first grade by one aggregate at ‘O’ level.

Earlier the MP said his attention had been drawn to an alteration in his information on the website of Parliament.

“My year of birth was altered from 1982 to 1980 without my knowledge. I immediately called the IT department of Parliament and they claimed not to know who made that change. I have tasked them to explain that and will be speaking to the director soon. In the meantime, they rectified the anomaly immediately.” He said

He assured his friends that there is no cause for alarm with regard to all his records whether academic or otherwise.

“I will soon address all of you about the specifics. In the meantime, treat these as the usual desperate attempts by the regime to block, embarrass or detract its opponents. Unfortunately, at every interval, they have always easily found some tools to use in these shameful manoeuvres. They have done worse things and they will do more, but nothing, completely nothing will stop our revolution” he said
