Vipers were officially crowned champions of the 2014/2015 Uganda Premier League (UPL) at Buikwe stadium on Tuesday.

The Buikwe-based side edged Bul-BIDCO 1-0 and duly delivered their second league title (since 2009/10) to seal a tough but fantastic campaign.

“We played well throughout the season, this group of players and coaches truly deserved this title” said Edward Golola, the Vipers Head coach.

Despite starting the day in relegation, Soana FC beat Police 1-0 at Kavumba Recreation Ground to secure League status.

Rashid Kyambadde scored the only goal in a tense game at Kavumba.

Geoffrey Sserunkuma 19th minute header was enough to give Lweza FC a 1-0 away victory against KCC FC as the Orange-boys survived relegation.

URA’s Robert Sentongo finished top scorer with 15 goals, one ahead of Police’s Umar Kasumba.

Kira, Entebbe and Rwenshama sink
Meanwhile Kira Young saw their Two-year stay in Uganda’s’ elite league ended as they lost 2-1 to Simba at Namboole stadium thus joining Entebbe and Rwenshama into the second tie league.

Needing win to avoid the drop, Kira Young faced a Simba side that wanted a point to stay up, as fate would have it, Patrick Gohanasa and Robert Nakyenalire scored in either half for Simba as tension boiled at Namboole.

Godfrey Sembyata pulled one back for Kira, whose boss Jimmy Lukwago sat on the stairs of Gate 6, his knees supporting his chin as he witnessed his team go down.
