The out spoken and intelligent-in-the-ring Mayweather announced that he has retired from the game after he won his 49th fight by unanimous decision in the twelfth round.
Sports analysts have compared Floyd’s success with that of other greats like Rocky Marciano and Muhammed Ali and Mike Tyson.
Put on the weighing scale, Mayweather has fought 49 times unbeaten with 26 KO’S while as Muhammed Ali fought 61 games with 56 wins, 37 KO’S and 5 losses and mike Tyson had 58 fights with 50 wins, 44 KO’S and 6 losses.
Obviously, Muhammed Ali is greater than the Moneyman in the number of fights, but what is not in contention however is that Mayweather has maintained a clean sheet in 49 matches and Muhammed Ali lost his first in 32 matches to Joe Frazer in 1971 in famous Manila thriller.
Mayweather rise to stardom has not come easy. Through his raise, he has had to fight hard knocks Many Pacquiao, Jesus Chavez, Marcos Maidana, Ricky Hatton, Juan Marquez and our own Justin Juuko among others.
“I have been in the sport for 19yerars. I have made great investments and I am financially stable. Records are made to be broken. Maybe we can get another Floyd Mayweather. Now I want to spend my time with my family. I am leaving the sport with all my faculties. I am still smart and sharp. I have accomplished everything and there is nothing more to accomplish in the sport, for all the fans thank you.
“You’ve to know when to hang the gloves, am I’m close to 40 now and there’s nothing left to prove in the sport of boxing,” he said.You may dislike his flashy lifestyle… but you cannot take it away from the Moneyman the fact that he works hard and smart to get the results.
“My body is breaking down not from taking the punishment but from all the hard work,” he told the crowd after his win.
