The legal team representing Amama Mbabazi in his petition seeking to nullify the victory of President Yoweri Museveni after an earlier denial has been allowed by the Supreme Court led by the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe to have more time to interrogate the tally sheets and declaration forms.
Mr Enos Tumusiime, the Electoral Commission lead lawyer told the panel of nine justices of the Supreme Court on Friday morning that they had availed declaration forms to Mr Amama Mbabazi’s legal team but the petitioners protested insisting that they needed more time to scrutinise the documents. The Chief Justice later in the afternoon session when court resumed ruled in favour of Amama Mbabazi’s application for more time to interrogate declaration forms.
“In interest of justice and being mindful of unique matter before us, petitioner to submit on submitted docs tomorrow 10:30AM,” the Chief Justice said.
Court also expressed concerns about EC’s failure to submit documents on time. The petitioners have until Saturday morning when the hearing of the case resumes.
