Kampala-The inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura has ordered police at Kasangati to withdraw security officers deployed at former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Kizza Besigye’s home.
Kayihura said that Besigye was put under preventative monitoring because He attempted to announce his own results yet the job is meant for the Electoral Commission. “That we could not allow happening because it would cause confusion.”
“He had not notified us as is required under the public order management act when he organized a procession to the Electoral Commission to demand for results. We detected this was going to cause chaos and disrupt business in the city. We then intervened and took him home.”Gen. Kayihura told a news conference this morning at police headquarters in Naguru.
“Withdrawal of our officers from Besigye’s home is an extension of a token of good will but we expect him to respect the law.” He said.
He however noted that he instructed the DPC to keep “a close eye” on Dr,Besigye’s movement and asked the four time presidential candidate to “cause problems” after police showing him good will.
“The truth is that he has not even been under house arrest in the first press. Like the other day he said he wanted to go to Church. I thought he was praying in Kasangati; little did we know that he had arranged with All Saints Church in Kampala. We still allowed him to go and pray.”
Dr. Besigye has been under what police calls preventative arrest for 42 days and even visitors to his home would be screened on top of getting permission from Assistant Inspector of Police, Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
