Kagame snubs Museveni swearing-in

The Swearing in ceremony of the President Elect HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday May 12, 2016 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds will be without top ally, Rwandese leader, Paul Kagame.

President Kagame, who hadn’t missed the other four in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011, says he is a little busy this time round.

A former Uganda deputy chief of intelligence, Kagame, however, was among the first world leader to congratulate Museveni upon winning a fifth term in office. He said he was aware Ugandans chose someone who will ensure peace and stability.

According to Frank Tumwebaze the minister for presidency, Rwanda is hosting the World Economic Forum – the reason for President Kagame’s absentia but will be represented.

Other countries that will send delegations instead of heads of state include; India, Japan, Germany & other guest from East African Community. Two former presidents Ali Hassan Mwinyi of Tanzania and Mwai Kibaki of Kenya are also expected.

Already, there is no official indication the EU and US governments have congratulated President Museveni since the elections, and especially after the Supreme Court on March 31 dismissed the petition by third runner up Amama Mbabazi, seeking to annul the result.

Programme

The program will begin at 7:00am with the arrival of invited guests who include out-going and in-coming members of parliament, political party leaders, former presidential candidates, delegations from all the districts, members of the diplomatic corp., religious leaders, traditional and cultural leaders, members of the academia, and the business community among others.

The President Elect, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and First Lady and Minister for Karamoja Affairs Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni will arrive at 10:40am.
