League kings Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA FC) have completed the signing of Simba (Tanzania) winger Brian Majwega on a free transfer.
The Cranes international, 26, has signed a two-year contract with the Lugogo club and will officially join on July 1.
Majwega was a free agent after being released from his contract at Dar es Salam and leaves after six months at the mainland club.
His arrival at KCCA will be another boost to manager Mike Mutebi, who is looking to shape his squad ahead of the club’s attempt defend the Uganda Premier League, try to win the Uganda Cup but also in the 2017 CAF Champions League.
“I am very happy to sign for the KCCA and for Mike Mutebi,” Majwega said when contacted by this website. “The history of the club is important for me in my decision to return back home.
“Playing in the CAF Champions League is very important for players in their careers and I am happy to play for the club that gave me the chance to showcase my talents.”
Known for his exceptional dribbling skills and speed, Majwega’s lack of club football saw Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic exclude him from recent squads for all the Fifa 2018 World Cup and Afcon 2017 qualifiers.
He last featured for the Cranes on June 13 against Botswana at Namboole Stadium in Kampala but he has revealed his desire to return to the national team fold.
This will be Majwega’s second stint with the 11 time league championship, his first coming in the 2009/2010 season till the 2014/2015 when he transferred to Azam of Tanzania in January 2015 where he was earning player earned $2500 (Shs8.4m) per month.
While with KCCA, Majwega won back to back league titles, not only being part of the squad but playing an integral part on the left side of midfield.
KCCA have already been busy in the transfer market, having agreed to sign aging Uganda international Vincent Kayizzi from rivals Express FC.
Majwega and his month issues
Majwega five months later fell out with Azam coach Stewart Hall and tried to engineer a move back to KCCA but ties between some officials at the Lugogo club and the player had been severed over a reported sign-on fee balance.
Julius Kabugo, the KCCA FC chairman, explained to Daily Monitor in November 2015 Majwega’s transfer to Azam then. “Brian signed up a three-year Shs50m contract with the club with a buy-out close of $150,000 (Shs506m). “Azam offered $90,000 (Shs304m); $60,000 (Shs203m) for club and $30,000 (Shs101m) for the player) for the transfer of Brian, which we had initially rejected but the player insisted on a transfer.
“This implied that the club was bound to make losses on this transaction and as such, we negotiated with him for the forfeiture of the outstanding Shs25m, especially that he had not served even three months of the contract.” Kabugo added: “Also as a club, we had sold him below our valuation. That’s when we received the $60,000 (Shs203m) and released him to Azam. If Brian is saying we didn’t agree on that, then that’s unfortunate. “I will request our legal team to study this and advise. Otherwise at the time that was the understanding.” Fufa’s Hussein explained that sign-on fees are not captured anywhere in Fifa player transfers.
He instead move to Azam’s bitter rival Simba where he failed to get playing time as well and was released alongside other foreigners last month.
Logic would dictate that rather than keep whining over the arrears and missed opportunities; Majwega has done the right things trying to reignite his career back at home.
