Recent reports indicate that former Minister of Justice and Attorney General Fredrick Ruhindi and the National Resistance Movement Administrative Secretary Hassan Galiwango are reportedly the top contenders to replace Badru Kiggundu at the Independent Electoral Commission.
Kiggundu’s term at the IEC ends this month and efforts to confirm whether Ruhindi or Galiwango would scoop the IEC job were, by press time, futile.
This is not the first time Ruhindi’s name has been linked to top jobs in the public sector and mid this year a source intimated to the EagleOnline that the former Nakawa MP had been selected by the President for the IEC job.
Later other sources linked him to the chairmanship of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), but this development was overtaken by events when High Court Judge Justice Benjamin Kabiito was named to head the JSC.
Also, other reports had indicated that Ruhindi was set to replace Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) boss Jennifer Musisi as the Executive Director.
The soft-spoken Ruhindi lost the Nakawa seat to Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Michael Kabaziguruka, and has since then withdrawn to private life. A lawyer by profession, Ruhindi served as minister for 10 years.
Meanwhile, little is known about Mr Galiwango but NRM sources say over the years he has served the party in various capacities.
