The former Chief of Defence Forces General Edward Katumba Wamala has this today been sworn in as the State Minister for Works.
The swearing in at State House, Entebbe, comes about a month after the President and Commander in Chief General Yoweri Museveni made changes in the army leadership, replacing Gen. Katumba Wamala with Gen. David Muhoozi.
Gen. Kayumba Wamala becomes the second serving officer to join cabinet, after his predecessor Gen. Robert Aronda Nyakairima was named Minister of Internal Affairs in 2013.
At the time Gen. Aronda’s appointment to cabinet raised eyebrows, with many arguing it was in contravention of the 1995 Constitution that bars serving army officers from being partisan.
