Following the deactivation of unregistered, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) boss, Geoffrey Mutabaazi has set a deadline to switch off all sim cards that weren’t registered.
Addressing the press at the UCC headquarters in Bugolobi, Eng. Mutabaazi urged all existing subscribers to present their National ID’s to their operators for verification within seven days lest they risked going offline.
Apart from National IDs, other documents that can be used include; passport, Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) database for refugees and Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) for companies.
“All people must update their registration information with National ID and passport in seven days or else their sim cards will be deactivated. There is unanimous and resounding consensus on the use of the National ID and Passport for verifying, validating and registering SIM cards. Lists of verified subscribers by telecoms will be presented to National Information Registration Authority (NIRA) for validation using National ID database.”
