Uganda National Women senior football team, the Crested Cranes, has been registered by Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) for the 2018 Total Women Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ghana next year.
FUFA created the Women Elite League three years ago to strengthen structures at club level and tender the grassroots as crucial components in the further development of women’s football in Uganda.
There will be two groups in the competition. Ghana qualify automatically as hosts while the remaining 7 slots will be determined by the qualifying rounds which will kick-off in February 2018.
Ghana secured the hosting rights to the 2018 edition of the eight-nation competition last year but sources indicate the country has yet to take any major step towards a successful organization and are in danger of losing the enviable rights of hosting the tournament.
The tournament also doubles as the African qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The top three teams will qualify.
The tournament is slated for November 17 to December 1, 2018.
