Political activist William Ntege aka Kyuma Kya Yesu, the man facing assault charges for accosting Kassanda South MP Simeo Nsubuga for ‘spearheading the removal of the age limit’, has been sent back to Kaweri prison in Mityana district until August 23, when his bail application will be heard.
Appearing before Grade One Magistrate Irene Namai, Kyuma kya Yesu was told that Chief Magistrate Hellen Ajiro who has been presiding over the case is sick. She also advised his lawyers to prepare his bail application.
The complainant, MP Nsubuga, a former police officer, nor his lawyer appeared for the court hearing.
Ntege was arrested on July 29 after he allegedly assaulted the MP as the latter proceeded to prostrate before Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi during his 24th coronation ceremony that was held at Kaweeri, Mityana district.
At the time of Mr. Ntege’s arrest, he reportedly accosted MP Nsubuga, blaming him of being the brains behind ‘the removal’ of the presidential age limit that is set at 75 years, ostensibly to allow President Yoweri Museveni, who is now 72 and presently not constitutionally eligible to contest for presidency again, to stand in 2021.
