Hippos prepare for COSAFA U20 tournament

The Cranes junior team, the Hippos started preparations for the 2017 Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) U20 tournament in which they were invited as the guest nation with Egypt.

Twenty players were part of the morning training session under the guidance of Head Coach Mathias Lule, his assistant James Odoch and goalkeeping coach Sam Kawalya.

The players will return to their respective clubs to play in the Azam Premier League and resume the training on Monday, November 27, 2017. The final squad to travel will be announced by the end of next week.

The tournament which comprises 12 teams will be hosted by Zambia and runs frons from December 6 to 16.

The matches will be played at two venues in Kitwe at the Arthur Davies Stadium and Nkana Stadium, with the potential for the final to be staged at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Uganda is in Group A alongside the hosts Zambia, Malawi and Swaziland.

Zambia is the reigning champion of the U20 COSAFA Cup trophy, having defeated South Africa last year.

Group A: Zambia, Swaziland, Uganda, Malawi

Group B: South Africa, Egypt, Mozambique, Mauritius

Group C: Angola, Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe

 

Goalkeepers: Saidi Keni (Proline FC) & Ali Mwirusi (Kibuli SS)
