Kampala: Parliament has halted Kisoro woman MP Rose Kabagyenyi’s move to have legislators discuss the circumstances that led to arrest and detention of the former inspector general of police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura.
Gen Kale Kayihura was last week picked from his farm in Lyantonde district by an air craft for a meeting with fellow generals before taking him to Makindye Military barracks where he has been held for over six days.
During the plenary chaired by speaker Rebecca Kadaga, Kabagyenyi asked parliament’s intervention saying the people of Kisoro are concerned about former IGP’s right to freedom and liberty that has been violated.
As she addressed parliament, Ms. Kabagyenyi was booed for standing to defend Kayihura. However submitted that Kayihura has been detained beyond 48 hours and the people of Kisoro wants to know why he was arrested and if he has a case to answer, he should be produced before court for justice to prevail.
Busongola north William Nzoghu, implored her to be calm saying he was arrested on orders of Gen commander Yoweri Museveni. “Gen Kayihura should be left to pay for all the sins he committed during his reign as IGP.
“I believe the matter is under investigation and there is no value addition at this stage, let’s move to the next item on order paper,” said the Rebecca Kadaga.
