The four radio Simba employees and comedians dubbed as Bizototo and singer Gerald Kiwewa have been released on police Bond. Their release follows a Court order which was issued by Buganda road Chief Magistrate Stella Amabirizi.
According to their lawyers led by Eria Nawenuwe, they secured a court order earlier today and served the inspector general of police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola, Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and special investigations unit (SIU) Kireka where the artists are detained.
“Court has ordered for unconditional release of the five. We hope that the respective directorates/institution will adhere to the court order and release our clients,” He said earlier today adding that there were reports that the detainees file had been forward to the directorate of public prosecution (DPP) however on consulting DPP’s office, the lawyer said they were fed on wrong information.
They were arrested on Friday morning as they arrived for their morning show.
Bizonto include; include Julius Sserwanja aka Kidomoole, Mbabaali Maliseeri (Uncle Luyuguumo) Sssaabakaaki Peter (Omuzinyuuzi) and Gold Ki Matono, aka Opeto journalist. They are employees of radio Simba.
Three of them are part of the station’s morning show which is packaged with satirical skits, mainly linked to the current affairs. One of them, Sssaabakaaki Peter Kajabuzi (Omuzinyuuzi), works with the evening show- Mukulikeeyo.
In a recorded video, they mockingly prayed for Uganda’s top leaders in a skit titled who are our leaders? The seven-minute skit which was uploaded on July 15, 2020, has attracted more than 11,000 views on YouTube alone.
The skit starts with a musical, the group members list all persons holding key positions in the security forces of the country saying that they all come from Western Uganda.
On the other hand the singer Fred Kiwewa was arrested over the song which embeds the names Nantaba and Zaake.
