Kamwokya residents fight over campaign money

Must read

Residents of Kamwokya, a Kampala Suburb have fought each other over money that was given to them by Muhamad Nsereko, the Kampala Central Member of Parliament.

Hon. Nsereko, who was campaigning this evening in Kamwokya, left money with his campaign agents, totaling to shillings 7 million which was meant for voters, according to residents. Each person was supposed to take home a share of shillings 5000.

However, this did not go well with residents after Nsereko’s departure. It started with a group of boys who came in and pushed the woman who was holding the money and ran away with bundles.

Residents told this reporter that this happened because men were ordered to be aside as Nsereko’s target was only women. When men realized that they were left out, they had to fight ladies who were given money.

Albert Nsabiimaana a resident said women made a mistake of getting out of where they were meeting from, that is why the men took the advantage of them to take their money. He adds that all happened because even women had failed to agree about how to share the money.

According to residents, the behavior that was shown by both candidates and residents is not good at all because it takes people’s lives in danger. Adding that over five residents have got injuries and rushed to health facilities to be given treatment because they sustained injuries as Gift Nyangoma narrates.

Betty Owimaana says giving them money was good because they need it but this was done improperly.

When Hon. Nsereko was told that people fought for money and chaos was still going on, Nsereko sent Emmanuel Sserunjongi, the mayor of Kampala central who had already left to bring sanity among residents. When he reached women lined up for the little shares that were left.
