All national events in Rwanda have been postponed and movement hours have been limited following new government directives as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of #Covid-19.

“Given the current trend of Covid-19, the cabinet has postponed all national events including Umushyikirano. This year His Excellence the President will deliver the state of the nation address in an interactive format with officials, citizens and media on Monday, 21st 2020,” reads part of the letter from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The cabinet also reviewed new measures to contain the spread of the deadly virus during the festive period. These measures that will be enforced on Tuesday December 15th 2020, will be reviewed after 3 weeks upon a health assessment.

The new measures are; From December 15th to 21st 2020, movements are prohibited from 9pm to 4am, and from December 22nd 2020 to Jan 4th 2021, movements will be prohibited from 8pm to 4am.

All social gatherings including wedding ceremonies and celebrations of all kinds are prohibited both in public and private settings.

Meetings and conferences should not exceed 30% of the venue capacity. Event organizers should comply with all Covid-19 preventive measures. Covid-19 tests will be required for all participants.

Offices of public and private institutions will operate at 30% capacity. Other employees will continue working from home on a rotational basis.
