The Uganda Cranes CHAN team has officially began preparations for mini-tournament scheduled to run from 1st to 7th January 2021 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The team that entered residential camp on Sunday evening is booked at the Cranes Paradise Hotel-Kisaasi.
27 players have reported to the camp and started residential training on Tuesday morning at the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.
According to the Head coach Johnathan McKinstry, the players are much more confident and excited to get started.
“All the players have reported to camp. We have been able to conduct an early introductory session where we outlined the objectives of the training camp and the tournament itself. We have generally set the goals and our expectations for players on and off the field,” said McKinstry.
“We feel everybody is very confident and excited to get started since the majority of players will be featuring for the first stime at the Final tournament,” he added.
The Team will embark on two training sessions per day from Tuesday 22nd -26th December before winding up with a practice match the following day. Travel to Cameroon is scheduled for Monday 28th December 2020.
KCCA FC players yet to be named are not part of this one week training session with Uganda Cranes as they have to feature for their team against Rwandese side AS Kigali FC in the CAF Confederation Cup. They will join the team between 7th and 8th January 2021 in Cameroon.
For the pre-CHAN tournament, Uganda will tussle it out with hosts Cameroon, Zambia and Niger in the Mini Tournament. It is a competition set for preparing the four teams ahead of the Total CHAN 2020 Finals that kicks off on 14th January 2021.
Uganda in Group C will play against Rwanda, Togo and Morocco. Uganda’s opening match is against Rwanda.
