The U-20 Uganda national football team, The Hippos are in Tanzania for the Africa Cup of Nations U20 mini-tournament before they head to Mauritania for the finals.
Eighteen (18) players that were part of the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers retained their places on the team while Sam Ssenyonjo (KCCA FC), Derrick Kakooza (Police FC), Davis Sekajja (Soltilo Bright Stars FC), Andrew Kawooya, (KCCA FC), Goalkeeper Delton Oyo (Busoga United FC) Simon Baligeya (Kibuli SS) and Ivan Eyamu (Mbarara City) are the new faces that missed the qualifiers but have managed to break through again.
The Team will play against Tanzania and Namibia in the mini-tournament from 2nd to 9th February.
The Hippos have already played two test matches where they emerged 3-2 and 4-3 winners against the Premier League side Kampala Capital City Authority.
The matches are meant to help the teams gauge themselves for the upcoming continental competition
Uganda Hippos is in Group A and will play against Mozambique in the first match on 15th February 2021.
The second match will be on 17th February against Cameroon before going head-to-head with the hosts Mauritania in the last group match on 20th February 2021.
