‘Prophet’ Mbonye under fire over asking for millions as offertory from flock

Elvis Mbonye, a self-styled ‘prophet’ and popularly known for his alleged prophecies that have always turned out to be true.

Among which, he claims  the Mabira forest wrangles in 2007, the anti-gay bill, exposure of some Pentecostal pastors’ dealings, the 2010 Kampala terrorist attacks, crashing of three UPDF choppers in Kenya and the latest being the withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union (Brexit).

Such prophecies and the publicity he has got have won him a huge following, however, he still hasn’t got a Church of his own. For the past years he has been shifting his Church from Hotel Triangle in Kampala to open House near Watoto Church on Buganda road and later to Theatre La Bonita,  Imperial Royale hotel and finally to Aya hotel where it settled early this year.

Mbonye feels this is the time to get a Church of his own and has started sourcing for funds to buy a tent from where to pray from. However, if you have less than Shs200, 000, don’t bother making a contribution.

According to the pledge cards that have been released by Aya based hotel, Mbonye, says  the only contributions he is accepting range from Shs200,000 to Shs3 million and this has brought him under criticism from the public.

Here are some of the reactions from the public;

Kenneth Lukwago Anderson

A prophet who issues pledge cards. You have less than 200k do not pick the card!!! I always said his clips posted on Facebook are always recorded after an event has happened. How come it’s published after such an event?? He predicts the past. That is what I have sensed.

Innocent Nahabwe

How gullible can Ugandans be? Strangely, women are taking their spouse’s money to him… he is some kind of woman magnet

Nasasira Enid Precious

Shs30 million for a tent… Is it made in gold, has air conditioners plus free WiFi???? Why are pastors in competition with politicians these days???? This is beyond disgusting.

Kam Besigye Arinitwe

Since my 50k can’t be accepted. Let me send to my mum in the village . Surely I will get more blessings.

However, there are also a few people that have come to his defence. Among these include;

Arina Richard What I see is the willingness of his people to contribute to the cause. It’s their money, they are free to spend it however they please including giving Shs30 million to buy the tent. Some here seem angered simply because they would wish to have that sort of money Using the card alone is no proof he’s a fraud. Let’s exercise some wisdom. And by wisdom I mean both sides to this contentious debate.

Rita Nakyeyune Kamulegeya No one forces you to do what you will for your hard earned money. As you will read that’s a pledge card to buy a tent for people to worship the Lord. By the way this may be payable over a year and it doesn’t matter how much you contribute. We have contributed money to cancer, sickle cell drives, bringing clean water to those who need it, building latrines etc how about building the house of the Lord?

European media claims SC Villa’s ex 23 yr old Nigerian striker Emenayo is well over 40

Word is making rounds in Nsambya that Uganda Premier League record champions SC Villa aided a Nigerian footballer who plies his trade with Azerbaijan club side, Shahdagh Qusar FK, Victor Emenayo, is at the center of an age cheat scandal that is threatening to truncate his playing career as the club officials are set to drag him to world football body, FIFA, over allegations of falsifying his age.

victor-emenayo
Emenayo who claims to be 23-years-old is being investigated by the Azerbaijani football federation after some discrepancies were discovered in his passport with one of them stating that he is 28-years-old, while the club insists he is well above 40.
In a statement where the club says Emenayo is even older than their coach, they also maintain that the striker is ’17 times older than the age he is claiming on his international passport.’
According to Emenayo’s international passport, he was born in 1993, which would make him 23, but the striker who played for many years in Uganda with lower League sides Baza Holdings , SC Victoria University, gaints SC Villa and Sadolin Paints before moving to Azerbaijan. But according to officials of Shahdagh Qusar FK, a search on the Internet about the striker showed he is far older than he is claiming.
Emenayo is already the butt of ridicule by social media users in Azerbaijan with the media also joining in the discrepancies documents about the age of the Nigerian, stating that he indeed looks well above 40 years old.
But many people have also come out to support Emenayo with claims that he could be suffering from a rare condition called Lorde Disease, a condition that makes one older than he looks.
Some Nigerians have also defender Emenayo by saying that he could have passed through tough times which could have affected his looks.

DP criticises ‘pigs’ youth’ arrest

Democratic Party Spokesperson, Kenneth Paul Kakande (R) addresses the media at a past function

The Democratic Party has weighed in on last week’s protest that saw over ten pigs thrown at Parliament, protesting against Shs200 million to be given to MPs to purchase cars.

Speaking at a weekly press conference at their head offices on City House, Kampala, DP spokesperson Paul Kenneth Kakande said the party is against the arrest of the two youths, Ferdinand Lutta and Joseph Lukwago, who allegedly dumped the pigs, painted in different party colours, at Parliament.

The duo was picked up minutes after they pulled up at the main gate of Parliament and released eight piglets painted in yellow and blue colours to protest the extravagant expenditure of taxpayer’s money by MPs. The pigs were painted in two colours – blue and yellow, colours of the biggest political parties in Uganda. Yellow for ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM) and blue for the biggest opposition party – Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
The piglets had tags in the name of the Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, her deputy Jacob Oulanyah, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko, Kato Lubwama of Lubaga South, Muyanja Ssenyonga, Workers MP Arinaitwe Rwakajara, Nakifuma County MP Robert Kafeero Ssekitoleko, and the Communications Director of Parliament Chris Obore.

And, according to Kakande, the MPs should focus on the message the youths are trying to send.

“The real point is, what are these young people saying? A pig eats its piglets. Many of you have read about the Animal Farm. The leaders of the Animal Farm were pigs. So I think these young people are trying to send a message to our Parliament – that may be they are behaving like pigs,” he said while addressing journalists this morning.

He added: “We should not arrest them. We should scrutinize our actions and listen to them, may be they are right or wrong…the public should judge them. This should be a time of reflection…you don’t kill the messenger. There are many people who are dissatisfied by the conduct of us, politicians and they have no way of expressing themselves. May be those are the few who can stand up to express themselves. We should encourage them. We should encourage a society that debates the conduct of their leaders. There were even blue pigs. This is not about … it is about how our society is being managed…”

MPs Muhammad Nsereko, Ssemujju Nganda and Gashumba in verbal war over ‘legislators’ greed’

Five Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) members who were allegedly behind the recent protest that involved dropping pigs at Parliament are expected in court today for their bail hearing.

But as they return to court, Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko has waged up a protracted war against the five and former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Dr Kiiza Besigye, whom he accuses of being behind the protests.

Speaking to media on Monday, Nsereko said that the protests were part of the FDC’s campaigns in its fight against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government. And being that he didn’t support the opposition in the past, he became one of their main targets, he said.

“You’ve tried all avenues…now you are inciting people to turn against Parliament….If defiance meant there is no swearing in, people were sworn in including himself,” Nsereko said.

VOWED TO TAKE ON NSEREKO: Kiira Municipality MP Ibrahim Semujju Nganda

In response to Nsereko, FDC Spokesperson and Kira Municipality MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, while appearing Monday on NTV advised him: “If what you are doing is not pleasing the public, the people have every right to show their dissatisfaction. Even Nsereko is not above criticism. By him demonizing and insulting Dr Besigye, we shall mobilise ourselves and he will pay the price.”

Nsereko welcomed Ssemujju’s statement, threatening to mobilse against him.

“I’m happy let them shift the battle to me. I am ready to take them on. Let’s shift the battle away from Parliament….because mine are facts.”

Meanwhile, social critic Frank Gashumba has also joined the verbal war. “I am fed up of this war of words. Kayihura should give us the Constitutional Square for we can go bare knuckles. How can you plan for the dead when the living are still living under deplorable conditions?” he said in a live video on Facebook.

“At first I thought we were in a struggle to liberate our people but I have come to realize that majority of these (MPs) were after liberating themselves. Though, the problem isn’t with the MPs, it’s with the public. Who votes for these people? This will go on until the day you learn to vote for people who represent you (and not their interests).

“When pigs painted in only yellow, we never saw opposition MPs coming out to condemn the act. However, because the recent pigs thrown at Parliament were painted in different colours, they have all come out. But as long as we pay you, we won’t remain silent. And you shouldn’t hide behind religion…this is not a religious war. If we can criticize the President, who is you?” Gashumba asks, apparently directing his question to MPs who are busy finalizing a deal that will see them get Shs200 million, ostensibly to purchase vehicles to ease their transport woes.

Bad Black, ‘Spiderman’ finally discharged

OUT OF DANGER: Fading city socialite Shanita Namuyimba aka Bad Black

City socialite, Shanita Namuyimbwa aka Bad Black was reported dead over the weekend by various media platforms.

The news came at a time when Bad Black was still in hospital where she had been admitted in critical condition after she was badly beaten by her boyfriend, city model, Paddy Twijukye known by his peers as Shy Paddy, who had just been released from prison.

A few hours earlier the ‘Mad Guard’ singer had reported Shy Paddy to police accusing him of stealing Shs7million from her.

Shy Paddy denied the allegations, was briefly detained at Kabalagala Police Station and later released on police bond.

On regaining his freedom, apparently Paddy went straight to Bad Black’s home and beat her until she lost consciousness. However, we have established that she was discharged Sunday and her condition is steadily stabilizing.

Meanwhile, Mustafa Lule aka Spiderman, the 17 year old boy who attempted to commit suicide at Mabirizi complex in downtown Kampala, was also discharged from Mulago national referral hospital on Friday.

By the time he was discharged, Lule said he was not in pain. Doctors at Mulago have told Lule they will need to perform an operation on his left arm, which broke on impact when he fell on the car which was parked by the roadside.

A psychiatrist who carried out an assessment of Lule’s condition has also reportedly recommended that he visit Butabika hospital.

Ban condemns DRC elections’ violence

United Nations Secretary-General has expressed concern over the violent clashes between protestors and security forces in Kinshasa, and several other locations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to a UN statement released by Mr Ban’s spokesman in New York, the protests led to the death of about 17 people including three police officers.

The Secretary-General in his statement urged all concerned political leaders and their supporters to refrain from any further violence that could exacerbate the situation.

“He calls on the Congolese authorities to ensure that the national security forces exercise maximum restraint in their response to protests,” the statement said, adding that the UN chief also called on all political leaders to address their differences peacefully and through dialogue, in line with Security Council Resolution 2277 (2016).

Mr. Ban’s call follows similar concern was expressed over the weekend by the UN Mission in the DRC, known by the French acronym MONUSCO, which noted that 16 civil society activists of the Union of Congolese Youth for Change were arrested on September 15 and 16 in Kinshasa while holding an activity on electoral civic education. The arrests were conducted by ANR and PNC officers.

The mission recalled that the freedoms of expression, association and peaceful assembly are fundamental rights enshrined in the Congolese constitution.

Maman Sambo Sidikou, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the DRC and Head of MONUSCO, called upon all actors in the political process to ‘abide by the tenets of the Constitution, including peaceful freedom of expression’, whether politicians, civil society activists or media organizations.
