Kampala MP Nabilah defends NRM’s Acen who failed PLE

Kampala Woman MP NAbilah Naggayi Sempala

Ordinarily, Alebtong District Woman MP seat loser Ms Elizabeth Abongo of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) should have her fellow party member, Kampala Woman legislator Nabilah Naggayi Sempala, as an ally. But this is not the case when it comes to demonising girl education.

Nabilah has astonishingly come out in defense NRM’s Christine Acen, whose election as Alebtong legislator was on Wednesday nullified by the Lira High Court over lack of requisite academic papers following a petition filed by Ms Abongo. The court also ordered the Electoral Commission to conduct fresh election.

In her ruling, Justice Night Percy Tuhaise said “there is possibility that the documents Ms Acen used for her nomination were forged since she did not qualify to join secondary school.”

Court heard that the first respondent (Ms Acen) sat for Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) at Ambalal Primary School in Lira District, but failed.

According to the evidence adduced in court, Ms Acen got F9 in three subjects: Social Studies, Mathematics and Science, and scored aggregate 8 in English.

Court heard that the MP’s Division U could not make her join secondary school, or take her anywhere.

But Nabilah immediately came out in a protracted statement advocating for the love and support of continued girl education, especially those from rural areas like Alebtong.

The controversial MP ranted: “Qualifications are a good proxy for the knowledge and skills that young people need. We should think of them as stepping-stones to a bright and successful future for those who achieve them. But they do not, and will never, completely define the sum total of what a good education ought to provide.”

“Shame on this continued dogmatic grading of academic qualifications! The route through academic progress should be varied and valid too!”

“Nor are they a binary predictor that someone will succeed or fail in life; ambition and aspiration backed by hard work are better predictors of success in life than any single result on one exam on one day.”

“I think that Uganda is wrong to punish slow learners because some people perform better with maturity. Most of our people who had no qualifications whatsoever are professionals in Developed nations such as US and Europe. It’s what you can be tested now that matters other than what tests you flanked in the past. I feel it’s wrong indeed to continue demanding for lower level qualification when someone goes ahead to score highly in subsequent level or grading.”

“Otherwise most Registered Nurses and engineers in most developed nations like the US and UK, through the technical colleges improve such people and they eventually become better professional than the A-list students!”

“Some of these people had their primary leaving examinations under war situations. No one has bothered to check out rural school conditions, let alone those in war torn areas!”

Norman Tumuhimbise

A function intended to launch a book aimed at unmasking the President Yoweri Museveni’s book, sowing the Mustard Seed today has been blocked by police.

The jobless brotherhood, (group of unemployed youth) attempted to launch another book titled ‘Un-sowing the Mustard Seed’ which is the opposite of the Mustard Seed. The function was at Amazing Grace on Bombo road.

At the function, the expected key speakers included Prof. George William Kanyeihamba, former Action Aid country representative, Leonard Okello, Prof. Edward Kakonge, Amb. Edith Grace Ssempala and Counsel Isaac Ssemakadde.

The author of the book Norman Tumuhimbise accuses the police force of being unethical and unprofessional conduct exhibited by some of its officers as they called off a peaceful and gazette launch.

Norman said that the police misconduct is not strange to him as most of the officers did not attain full police training thus being half baked.

“The receive and train aka rat policy involves a directive from some senior person in authority to police and army schools instructing them to receive and train some people. The sent students do not go through the entire training procedure but rather do mostly theory and join up the finalizing students as most of the ordinary students get suspensions” Mr Tumuhimise said.

Prof. kakonge who was the first Minister of Local Government for in the first Museveni government said “The government should allow people to express their views, and opinions freely with little or no interruptions at all’’ adding “The police had no legitimate role here and I cannot tell why they were even present”

The interruption by police to call off the event, annoyed the jobless brotherhood members who requested for a refund of their money from police since they had cleared all the payments and the program was called off underway for unknown reasons.

One of the people in the management at the venue and only identified as Peter was seen talking to the commanders of this operation who included suspended Wandegaya DPC, Moses Nanoka Mosess and Wesley Nganizi.

Nganizi was seen making endless call and unsettled was challenged by Counsel Isaac Ssemakadde to make a pronouncement that the launch is nor and void, the DPC failed the task thus walking way and resorted to getting occupied by his phone.

Despite the Vipers owner Mulindwa being the richest football administrator in Uganda, the club has failed to attract fans and corporate sponsorship overtime changing name from Bunamwaya and shifting to their home base to football starving Buikwe district but has not quite appealed to the locals and have in the past hired fans and an instrumental band to counter rival fans during city derbies.

Now Mulindwa has found a way to hijacking Kampala City Council, Lweza and Express’ core base of supporters; commuter motor cyclists aka  boda boda and bring the team back to Kampala most likely Nakivubo stadium.

“Vipers is a team based along Entebbe road that is why we felt the need to welcome fans from Kitende, Kajjansi, Bwebajja, Zana, Kawuku, Namulanda  among other areas along that road and then we can expand our fan base country wide,” Mulindwa said.

Mulindwa in his remarks last week at the prayer breakfast that opened the club’s pre- season preparations reiterated the need for the club to emerge stronger and professional with all the various departments functioning efficiently starting this season.

“Vipers must be a brand with a strong fan base, market, exceptional talent and all should exhibit high levels of professionalism,” he stressed.

In his message to the fans, he urged the fans to not only love Vipers by watching every single game but also be its ambassadors.

Vipers have plans of establishing the best football academy and exporting more talent outside Uganda in the not so far future and they have already started on this attainable project.

“Like all clubs, we have to start from somewhere. We have big plans and we can only achieve with support of you our fans,” the club president concluded.

In the same vein, new club branches and shops are set to be opened across various regions of Uganda so as to widen the fan base and sell more club merchandise. The first shop will be located at Kajjansi, along Entebbe road where jerseys, caps, t-shirts, wrist bands, umbrellas, and stickers will be sold to fans.
